It's not even surprising anymore platforms do this & act all Pikachu face why piracy is spiking

Netflix & all these streaming platforms have completely lost touch & they will lose more customers in the long run

To quote the infamous Gabe Newell on Piracy

"We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem. If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate’s service is more valuable."

I've been a good boy for 5 years or so but the seas call to me. Are streaming sites the way to go now or is torrenting still a better bet for mainstream movies and tv? I'd imagine all of my accounts have been deleted on those sites so I'd be starting over.

Hi,

Sorry if this has been posted before but I'm looking at trying Usenet instead of torrents.

I've done some Googling and honestly, it's a little overwhelming knowing what Usenet provider to use, where to get quality indexers and which download client would be the best.

If anyone has any resources or advice to help me sail the Usenet sees I would be eternally grateful!

Aarrr

4 panel comic by War and Peas. 1. Panel shows two pirates, the first pirate speaks "Captain, our rivals have been calling us names again." 2. Panel: The pirate continues, "They said we were a bunch of handicaps." 3. Panel: The captain himself says, "That's ableism! And we don't tolerate that kind of talk here". 4.Panel: The ship in full from afar waving a bunch of flags, such as the pride flag, the pirate skull-and-crossbones, the human rights flag, the trans flag and more.

So I've been grabbing a few shows I want to watch reruns of while playing Balatro that don't have good blu ray releases. My piracy is fairly limited these days so I don't bother with private trackers (do have a VPN though). In the past, I never really had an issue with grabbing a few one offs off the popular, maybe honeypot, sites like rarbg and 1337x.

But over the past month or so, I've noticed I have gotten a lot of shitty files. Skips here and there or garbled colors for a scene or two. At first I though it was just a bad file since re-downloading the torrent had the exact same problem.

But, on a whim, I did a recheck and had to download like 40% of a torrent. And then 20% the next time. Which made me assume my NAS was fucked or I was dealing with a lot of packet lsos (... I AM dealing with a lot of packet loss from my ISP). But when I redownloaded a "known bad" torrent I had the exact same corrupted file.

So am I just REALLY unlucky? Or is there an epidemic of shitty/malicious seeds on the public trackers these days?

Inspired by a post since deleted, I feel bad for probably coming off judgemental about the poster's taste in the movie that drove him to consider sailing.

The earliest desired media I can remember that drove me to figure out sailing was DC Talk, a Christian rock band. Pop music was not allowed in my house, so a Christian group was tantalizing and scandalous to a rebellious, young Vanth. Things escalated from there.

Tribler *arr integration

Hey selfhosters!

I recently discovered Tribler - anonymity focus torrent client. It made some rounds on hackernews and I'd never heard of it before.

I installed gui and was not impressed - it ran terribly on macos. However, I was able to test download and its anonymity features - it uses TOR inspired onion routing. I saw they had API available - and thought it would be perfect for my selfhosted *arr stack usage. However, *arr apps did not integrate tribler API (understandably, it's a niche client)

I dug in a bit and thought it would not be so difficult to create a shim that pretends to be some better integrated torrent client.

I picked qbittorrent.

You can check the link. I run it in docker. Add it to sonarr / radarr as qbittorrent client (username and password is irrelevant, as tribler shim integrates with tribler through API key) It's not the most secure approach - but managing torrents wihout authentication in my home network is an acceptable risk.

I was not able to download anything with more than 1 hops in between - ie it does hide your real IP address, but only uses one relay in between. It's not perfect, but seems to work as designed. I run my services mostly in Kubernetes, so there's likely something in my networking that. I will poke around more to see what could be the issue.

For now, the torrent management works through arr apps using the shim, however, the category is not implemented. Therefore, you can only use one category for both sonarr and radarr for example, and you will see downloads of both of those.

I'm just curious as I've permanently dedicated my laptop to torrenting. I've been too nervous to install anything but the VPN and Firefox on it. Now, I'm curious to mess around with Linux some more, which is what I use on it, but I can't fully test out what all I can do with it without signing into accounts.

Do you use your torrent machine to do other things besides torrenting, signing into personal accounts and stuff?

Until I read someone mentioning them on Facebook, but the comment was removed shortly after.

What are these apps, and are they really good and usable on a Fire Stick TV Lite? Is the content they provide comparable to the top online streaming watch online (pirate) websites?

I was going to sell the fire stick and use my PC with an HDMI cable, but I may think twice now.

is Privado VPN good? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)
submitted 3 days ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I know free vpns usually are not good, but right now I am not in a position to pay for a vpn. I found Privado VPN and it doesn't keep logs and is based in Switzerland. It has a data limit for free users, but do you think its safe for torrenting?

Hello guys, I'm curious about this meme, is there some literature where I can find someguides to test this? Thanks.

You wouldn't pay for 4k Netflix and then download a Chromebook recovery image in order to extract the aarch64 widevine com blobs and then patch in support for 16k pages and then apply miscellaneous glibc compat workarounds and then spoof your useragent, and install a browser extension to unlock HD resolutions, to legally watch media in only 1080p

Why does qBittorrent download search indexes when I click update, and do I need to worry about being infected because of it?

At various times, most social media platforms have received criticism for alleged failure to prevent distribution of copyright-infringing content. Few, however, have been threatened with widespread blocking more often than Telegram. In a row that seemed ready to boil over last year, Telegram was given an ultimatum by the Malaysian government; come to the negotiating table or face the consequences. A Malaysian minister now says that Telegram is ready to fight piracy.

I wanted to play Test Drive Unlimited 2 multiplayer with the TDU World mod, but since I'm not one of the lucky few who owned the game back in the day (I was still a teenager when they shut down the game) I have to pirate it. Unfortunately, the tool required to do it while working with TDUWorld, 80_PA (https://github.com/Blaukovitch/80_PA ), doesn't want to work through Wine as it crashes immediately.

It's a long shot, but has anyone here used it?

Last week, new footage of Marvel's upcoming 'Captain America: Brave New World' appeared online. The film is due to be released in 2025 but the allegedly leaked material, posted in an Instagram story by a well-known 'scooper', clearly has Disney and Marvel concerned. Through a DMCA subpoena, the movie companies aim to find out who's behind the social media account.

i like collecting any available extras, featurettes, commentary tracks, etc with any movie or show in my library, but more often than not i have a pretty hard time finding them. i know they're sometimes on youtube, but it's very hit and miss, especially with newer movies; and as they're often included in bluray, iso rips usually have them but i'm not particularly knowledgeable on how they work to be able to rip only the extras.

so i guess the question is: is there any tracker/forum/other source that hosts extras (either with the movie itself bundled in or not)? any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

I'd prefer to get a VPN to avoid the risk of my internet getting shut down, but I'm not aware of what the options for Linux are. I figured this would be a good place to ask.

I've been trying to setup Tdarr to transcode using my AMD integrated GPU instead of my CPU, but all I'm finding online is people using nvidia cards...well, I don't have one of those, but I have an AMD CPU with integrated gpu, so I wanted to use that, but apparently that's extremely uncommon and I can't find any working solutions.

Edit: I'm running Tdarr in a docker container on my OMV media server.

Edit 2: I've gotten it working, but the compression is nonexisting. A h264 -> h265 transcode increases file size by ~5%.

Needed to add my Tdarr container to the render group and pass through the dev/dri/renderD128 folder.

I recently got into fighting games (like: kof - street fighters - Mortal Kombat - Guilty Gear...etc). Now you can pirate the game, and you can play it online with someone if the two of you agree on using same pirated copy and Hamachi for example, but where do you meet these people to play with? are there dedicated forums for online games lobbies?

I don't even know how people with steam copies find opponents online, I just see them mention "the steam lobbies". But from observing people's reviews on their online experience with kof XIII, I understood that it overwhelmingly sucks.

I took fighting games as example here cuz I already know fps games like Counter-Strike 1.6 have sufficient sites like this: https://www.gametracker.com/search/cs/

I remember we used to play pirated Yu-Gi-Oh! using Hamachi, organized through facebook groups, so is that the only hope for these situations? praying to find a facebook group for organized matches of your niche?

I used to use NewPipe back in the days of yore. Then I got Youtube Premium since it bundled in Youtube Music as well which I used. But the former's app on mobile is a shit show. Even after paying, you are asked to tip random creators, purchase merchandise[ which are shown as actual ads below videos] and join channels to access exclusive videos for more money. Basically pay money once, and then pay more money for more content.

Okay, one could argue atleast the above goes to a channel's creators and helps them. How would one say then that the Youtube app still doesn't have a systemwide option to choose video quality for all videos. New Pipe had that option long ago, but Youtube thinks it's user base are immature who need to be coddled with only two options like "High" and "Data Saver".

Despite having a Premium thing, I finally crossed over to a Newpipe fork Tubular [available on F Droid] today simply because the paying experience on Youtube Mobile is so bad. I can't fathom how bad it would be for free customers using the official app.

@piracy Apparently Google Bard and ChatGPT can give you valid Windows10 keys. I wonder what other keys you can extract from them?

Edit: Solution is Zotify, use a burner account for this type of use (playing songs on speakers, quality is fine at 160kbps). It's a bit hard to setup and use, but nothing major. SpotifyDown is the next best option Imo, cannot download full playlists but quality is good. (Not using audio from YouTube videos) Most other options have their quirks. Also, first time using Lemmy because of this sub, pretty good

Quality isn't an issue; I'm going on a road trip and don't want my music to be stuck to my phone. I have Spotify Premium too, but I would like my music on a USB Drive.

I've tried sites, but the one's that can download full playlists, download YouTube audio, and these aren't great (some songs have weird effects/cuts and shit and not the pure song)

Okay I'm fully aware of how ridiculous this sounds in 2023, but bare with me.

I have a wonderful neighbour, Jackie. She's in her mid-sixties, and ever since she moved in we have become very good friends, she's like a second mom to me.

Jackie loves movies and has an enormous DVD collection. One day, she was talking about how she couldn't find a particular movie, and I said "I can probably download that for you!" Her immediate reply was "Can you put it on a DVD?" I tried telling her the many reasons it would be better to use a myriad of other solutions, but she insists on DVDs.

I did them for a while using DVDStyler on Windows, and it worked fine. But then I installed EndeavourOS on a new partition on my hard drive, tried using Brasero and Devede but it wouldn't read on her DVD player. Then I tried DVDStyler on my Linux partition, and it didn't work on her DVD player, despite saying the operation was successful on my end. I then tried booting up into Windows and using DVDStyler, and that also didn't work, not even letting me burn the disc. Does anyone have any ideas what could fix this? I've tried playing around with the settings in all these apps but I couldn't figure it out.

Apologies if this isn't the best place to ask this, but I figured a community of pirates would understand my desire to get movies to Jackie without her having to pray to find them in a pawn shop!
