Hello, we’re visiting for two weeks this autumn and I'd like to find a SIM so my wife’s iPhone can use maps, GPS, Signal and iMessage in Bergen and the Lofoten region. My assumption is this would be a Norway number. Please let me know what you suggest. Thank you.

I am planning on moving to norway next year after finishing high school. What are the things I’m supposed to do to be able to do that? About me, I speak norwegian pretty well and I’m a straight A student. I would like to study product designing or languages (still cant pick one of the two) and I’m hoping to study somewhere in the Romerike region. All advice and information would be helpful :-)

Just as the title says.

I’m second generation Scandinavian-American, and my grandmother’s family owned farmland and a homestead outside of the Bergen area. As someone who has been living here in the US my whole life without being able to have the access to deeper connections of my familial roots in Norway and Sweden outside of immediate family here in America, visiting this place where my family lived for hundreds of years is deeply important to me. Prior to my family immigrating to the US, they experienced deep fine hardship and had to sell the homestead. It is now owned by another family, and has been for nearly 70 years.

I want to be able to visit this location and I know that many parts of Norway and Sweden have laws that allow you to explore any natural area that isn’t privately owned. The last thing I want to do is just walk around anyone’s property without having permission from the owners.

My question is, what would be the best option here? When my family owned this location is was MASSIVE. Hundreds of square kilometers. Would it best for me to try and find a means of contacting the current owners directly prior to being in the area, or to try and contact them directly in person first? What would be the best manners here and the most respectful? I want to make certain I’m not going against Norwegian cultural and social rules or breaking any law.

Thanks.

Writing in english so everybody can understand what I am writing. My family moved to Norway when I was a child. I have been here most of my life and feel western and norwegian. But for the past years, my mental health has been bad. In addition, I have been having an ethnic identity crisis.

My siblings are older then me, yet somehow they are doing WAY better in life then me. They have kids, they are married, they are highly educated and work and they seem well integrated and happy. My mom worked until she just retired and my dad still works as a university professor.

In the beginning of my 20's I was confident and social. I was invited to a lot of parties and geniuely felt like people liked me. I didn't have issues socializing. I had norwegian friends and friends from all nationalities. I was studying and working and didn't really have issues around socializing.

Until, for the past years I have started taking the social distancing too seriously even after the pandemic. My job contract didn't get renewed and I haven't been able to get hired. Ever since I have been unable to socialize in the same way I used to. I also got diagnosed with ADHD early this year.

While a lot of people are still nice to me. Now, if I encounter somebody who is rude, having a bad day or being clearly unfair. Then I start feeling like I am not wanted, that I am not accepted because I am not ethnic. I start to withdraw and isolate socially.

In addition, most people in their 30's seem to be preoccupied with their romantic partner and kids, and don't seem to have room for friendships. I would like to have a romantic partner but I haven't found anybody on dating apps that I can see myself with. I believe I would be able to find somebody I am compatible with, had I put myself out there in the real world. But I am unable to socialize that much anymore.

I keep thinking that there are people out there who don't want me to exist and be a part of society just because of my ethnicity, so its better to be home. I would love to join new activities or meet new people but I am scared I will just be ignored in a group setting.

I have been looking into jobs that I can do remotley just to avoid feeling inferior or unwanted. I am not sure what to do anymore. I feel like I am gonna end up being completly isolated from society one day and it hurts. Because I know I am likeable and loveable and that I deserve to be happy.

I've begun learning Norwegian (Duolongo one I know its Bok something) with plans to travel there some time soon, I wanted to know if anyone knew of any online groups that might be able to help me learn the language because I'm struggling to find any that arent threatening to take an arm and a leg, and just doing Duolingo isnt helping me learn punctuation or anything like that and I'm more of a learn through doing kinda guy.

Hei alle sammen! I'm an American who was born in Norway and has a Norwegian family. For my entire life I've lived in Manhattan and gone to Sjømannskirken weekly to get waffles and groceries/candy, but I've just recently moved to Atlanta. I know this isn't the right place to ask, but I didn't know where else to besides r/Atlanta, but does anyone know where I can find Norwegian food (and preferably groceries; I miss Lypsyl for example 😅) in Atlanta? The only place I've found is the Buford Highway farmers market, but they have very little selection and just recently replaced almost all of it with Swedish stuff. I don't want to pay $20 shipping for Seigmenn! If anyone can help me out, that would be a huge help. (:

TLDR; I have nothing holding me back and I want to move to to Europe. Is Norway worth it?

Hey, I am from Canada, Female, 30 🇨🇦 and have been considering moving to Europe for the last 5 years

I originally grew up on Ontario, but moved to Newfoundland. I love it here, but i feel it is time for me to move on and pursue my dream of relocating to Europe. This is something I've wanted to do my entire life.

How is the work field? I'm open to re-education and changing industries.

School? Just in case I do decide to learn.

Housing? What's the price range? This wouldn't be for a few years.

Income? Job industry?

Healthcare? I have epilepsy, which us under control but requires medications.

Cheers!

Hello, I want to buy used car in Oslo, and drive it back to my home country (Serbia). This is attractive for me because there is a incentive tax refund for exporting a used car out of Norway. I know that I need to re-registrate the car, as explained on , but I am unable to buy insurance for a car. For online insurance purchase I need bankID but I do not have it. How to buy car insurance as a foreigner? Is there some agency (like freight forwarder) that can help me with export?

I live in Lysaker/Oslo and got two bikes stolen last night (at least 60 thousand). And I got another bike stolen a few years ago in the same building... Thieves also stole things from my neighbors (6 or 7 neighbors affected)... Calling the police is useless. They don't care really. I wrote to the board of my building complaining about the security in the building, and they do nothing also... They will pay "securitas" to come once in a while to check... WTF? Can I go against them somehow in the court?

Ska vi inte invadera Danmark? Dom är skit jobbiga

Vem i helvete kallar potatis för kartoffel? Helt sinnessjukt

För nordens skull kan vi väl skicka dom till Tyskland och dela upp deras land så vi kan skapa snus fabriker och mejerier för brunost

har de matet

Hi everybody. So i am new to Norway and never was somewhere close to climate like this. I also live at southern part of the country(kristisansand) so it rains pretty heavy there. As i was looking for winter clothes, i found that top layer needs to be waterproof, and it doesnt really matter is it warm(or insulated) or not as long as you are going to wear layers underneath it. My question is: Is this statement true? If i wear, say :Merinowool-Fleece-warm jacket or another fleece(if its rlly cold)-goretex(or any equivalent waterproof fabric), will this keep me warm enough?

I am talking city usage, not backpacking or whatever.

I finally moved full time to Larvik after a lot of back and forth tourist visas with my husband. He has lived here for 20yrs, and is blind to what is around him/in the area (as many of us can be when we live in a space and take it for granted). So far, I find this area very…boring. We do a lot of cycling and love being outdoors. I also find history here very interesting. I’ve been using the VisitVestfold site for ideas of things to check out. Does anyone have any insider info or tips on neat things to check out in a day trip? Or any suggestions for an over-nighter? Specific worthwhile hikes to something cool or a scenic view? I’ve ventured a little into Telemark and it definitely gets more interesting. Anyhow…It seems I have to make all the suggestions for things I’d like to go see/do, so I need more for my list! Thanks in advance!

So I just realized than being a member of some associations here in Norway might have some very positive benefits, for example being a member of Naf (the Norwegian automobile association) gets you cheaper charging stations installations, legal help in case of accidents and some other stuff.

Are there any other associations that offer their members good benefits? Which ones?

Thank you!

I was listening to En flyktig drøm by Bjøro Håland and Lillian Askeland and was reminded of my two stints in Norway as a uni student. My second one was in Telemark and there the vibe was certainly more country-like than in Bergen. I recall the country music playing in a pub in Bø and the old retro American cars being paraded on 17. mai and also the end of High School, the russefeiring with students being driven around in American vans painted red. I was part of an international group of students from all over, but I recall that the American ladies had most of the attention from the locals and I know for sure of a couple that is now married (American girl, Norwegian guy). Some of the Norwegians I met were also enthusiastically telling me of planned or previous trips to the States. Do you guys like Minnesota and Wisconsin that much?

Cheers to all of you.

It seems like there has been panhandlers in Oslo more and more often that give like "hey I need to go to Stavanger and I need moneh" or "hey I need to start a business and I need moneh"

Can't police do something about that?

Hi! I’ve seen numerous posts and comments before how it is generally more convenient to bring a card (Visa/Mastercard). After all, majority of the time, card is being used. I’m doing that. However, I also read some comments here before saying that it would also be nice to bring a few cash.

Tl:dr I’m seeking advice on how to get urgent mental health support in Oslo

I’ve been dealing with a very difficult life situation for awhile that has led to me dealing with pretty intense depression and anxiety. I finally reached out to my fastlege who said he would refer my case to the hospital (or wherever) for me to gain access to psychological support but he told me I was unlikely to be considered severe enough to be approved. In the meantime he told me to contact Rask (I’m in Oslo) and they told me I’m not a good candidate for cbt and they referred me to prat. So I have an appointment for a prat session in a week but they already told me that I will only get three sessions so I don’t expect this to provide much relief. In the meantime, something has happened more recently that has me absolutely spiraling. My anxiety is completely overwhelming my ability to function. I feel I need urgent support, maybe some time off work, more intensive therapy, ideally some meds although I know that’s not likely. It seems like the only way to get any real support here is if you are imminently suicidal which I’m not. If anyone has any experience with this or any advice on where to reach out, what to ask for, just how to get help, I would be eternally grateful. I feel like I’m having a total breakdown and I don’t know what to do. Thanks for reading:)

I am trying to find a way to get this book in e-format. Unfortunately, Norwegian websites require only Norwegian telephone numbers that start with +47 — I am not from Norway so I don’t have any!

Maybe you can give me some advice on how to get the book? I really need it for my paper — I’m majoring in Norwegian literature.

Thank you!

Hi there,

Asking for a friend who doesn’t use Reddit. She is an EU citizen.

She has recently been laid-off (permittert?) on a temporary basis. She will be paid 62% of her salary by NAV.

She is currently owed 48 hours of overtime. Her contract states that she gets +20% in addition to her normal hourly rate for overtime pay. Her contract also states that the employer can ASK to take the time off or pay it out but she is unsure if ultimately, that should be her decision.

She has a few questions:

  • Is the 20% overtime rate normal or should it be 40%?
  • Can the employer ask her to take the time off? What if she prefers to be paid out?
  • Now that she is laid off, what happens to her overtime allowance?
  • As an EU citizen, is she entitled to legal aid for this type of issue?

Thanks in advance ☺️

I recently bought a house and even I know (and have own experience) enough with electrics to make minor fixs or improves like to install new wires, change connections, etc. it’s not allowed to do by yourself and I will have to contract a licensed electrician.

But this norm also applies to low voltage appliance like wall-integrated displays, sensors, cameras, etc? I like to DIY with homeimprovement with homeassistant and I’m not sure that I’m allowed to do that… I mean I know I will not be fined for do that but may the home insurance will try to not take responsibility of fire for example if they found that I installed something even if the fire is not caused by this.
