Just saw the news about the governments focus on improving attendance at schools. It was quite a shock to hear how low our attendance rates were. I've not long been out of highschool but certainly don't remember attendance A: being that bad or B: causing that much trouble anyones education. People tended to just get the work done in their own time much like at university.

I'm curious, those who are currently in highschool but have poor attendance, why? Do you find it has an impact on your education at all?

I know folks are still going to restaurants and cafes but it kind of floors me. I’m on a pretty good income, all things considered, and wouldn’t even entertain the idea. When was the last time you ate out? And what did you pay?

Dude was mowing the neighbour’s lawn and while my partner was on our lawn hanging out her laundry the dude walked to the fence line and took a photo of her because “she was just so pretty”.

Phone number goes straight to a call centre in Australia and he just says he’ll “refer” it, after having a bit of a laugh.

So yeah. On the North Shore and want your lawn mowed? Go ahead and don’t call Jim’s Mowing. Did a dogshit job on the lawn, too.

Our house is undergoing a managed repair under insurance from flood damage. We’ve had to move out of our house for the duration of the repairs (at least 3 weeks).

For peace of mind and security we have installed two security cameras in the house, one looking at the lounge / front door and the second looking down the hallway.

On the first day of repairs, we noticed that the lounge camera had been turned around to face the wall by one of the tradies. We went back that night to reposition the camera to face the lounge again at a higher location.

Today when the tradies returned, they placed a plastic bag over the lounge camera and shut the door where the hallway facing camera is so that view is blocked.

I called the tradies’ manager and asked why they are touching the cameras. He said that they didn’t like the cameras there and felt like they were being watched. He said he will tell them not to touch the cameras and they have since removed their covers.

Question:

  • Is it right that they tampered/touched the cameras? These are not located in areas they needed to be. The cameras are there for our own security in our own house and they have no valid reason to touch them in our view.

Keen on your thoughts about this situation? I contacted the insurance company to let them know but they said they can’t actually do a lot unless something bad has happened.

I can’t help but feel uncomfortable about these people in my house now.

My boss has just had a meeting with all the staff saying we’re going to have to put all our phones in a “lock box” during working hours and only access our phones during our break. I’m wondering if this is even legal in nz as I’ve never really heard of it happening. I’m happy not using my phone during working hours but don’t feel very comfortable leaving it in a box

Hi all, I have a Samsung tv ($3200) purchased Jan 2023 that’s creating what I can only describe as a buzzing noise from the back of it and wouldn’t stop. Put in a warranty with PBtech online just to get an email saying it’s out of warranty. Called to clarify and they advised they only give 12 months warranty from the manufacturer and declined the warranty.

What’s the next step to take? Surely a $3200 should last more than 16 months without issues?

EDIT: Thank you for all your response about mentioning CGA. I just got an automated reply from them that my warranty has been accepted and to return the TV back after emailing them. I appreciate all your help.

It seems that our governments are unable to tackle basic issues that kiwis wants addressed. The gap between your average kiwi and their representatives seem huge. They don’t understand what life is like for a normal person. Crisis after crisis we cannot fix. We are going backwards, at least that’s how it feels.

I don’t know one single young person that is in a good financial position/ optimistic for the future, unless they have been given wealth by parents.

I’m not just saying this because of our national governments performance. It felt the same under labour.

Our government does not care for ordinary people. You can tell by the way they speak about us, the lack of commitment and accountability.

Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe one of you can articulate this point better than I can.

What do you think?
