I'm using Debian 12 on a Thinkpad, and I'm experiencing frequent disconnections with Mullvad. Since it works well on Windows 10, I don't believe it's a hardware issue, but I've encountered the same problem on Debian, Mint, and Ubuntu.

On Mint, Mullvad tries to reconnect, and it succeeds about 80% of the time without needing a full restart. However, on Debian, it simply drops the connection—Mullvad still shows as connected, and my computer still says it's on the network, but there's no traffic at all. When I hit the red restart button to resolve it, it just disconnects again within a minute. Anyone else faced a similar issue?

So I'm new in the OpenWRT and Mullvad communities, and basically I flashed my router with OpenWRT and install Wireguard on it and followed the Mullvad guide to set it up. I also used the appropriate DNS server which filters out explicit content. The thing is that some websites, even though they come under the adult category are not filtered and I would like to know if it is possible to block them as well as use Mullvad's own DNS server?

I looked up BanIP module on OpenWRT but I am not sure how it works on a Wireguard tunnel because it is currently not working. So if anybody has any idea how to block websites which are not blocked currently by Mullvad's own DNS blocklist, please help.

Hi, is it possible to route single requests over a specific mullvad relay?

In my case i want to make 10 requests from python via one relay and then 10 requests via a different relay. Possibly even asynchronous and without using the cli to connect. Basically like a proxy, if i am using these terms correctly?

I currently am using OPNSense and AdguardHome routed through Unbound DNS - DNS over TLS through 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. I am looking to spruce up my configuration.

I saw https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls and that Mullvad and OPNSense support Wireguard.

What is the recommended way to combine these services for my devices, with a good balance of speed and privacy? Should I use the Mullvad VPN app on my phone and at home, use a Mullvad DoH/DoT DNS server through Unbound, or use Mullvad Wireguard and route everything through there? Or something else.

I have a GL MT1300 router. According to the GL website (and the onboard software) I should be able to simply enter my Mullvad account number, and it will do all the work so I can connect via WireGuard. However, it doesn't seem to be working like that for me.

I have tried both simply entering my Mullvad account number, but after a few minutes 'generating configuration' that returns an error "Add Failed"

I have also tried doing so manually, following instructions I found on another post, and pasting the config details (generated on the Mullvad website) directly in. But when I do that, I get the error "No parameter found."

So I'm not sure what to try next. I'm based in China, but Mullvad works here, so I'd hoped it would work on my GL router too. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing what I've undoubtedly missed!

EDIT: As expected, yep, it was my stupidity. I assumed a 4 year old router would be as updated as it would ever be, but in fact, my firmware was about two years out of date! Updated that, used manual config files, and Mullvad connected straight away. Yay!

I get the idea in principle, DNS over HTTPS (I don't understand every detail, but at a super high level, I get it), but installing the profile doesn't actually change my DNS provider? Like, I installed the profile, but I still have my old DNS settings in the Network tab (I was using 1.1.1.1). I thought it was going to take over and use Mullvad's DNS settings. Can they provide the DNS over https, but using someone else's DNS?

Kind of confused.

For some reason, Mullvad no longer automatically launches on login when I use my non-admin profile in macOS Sequoia. Changing the "Launch app on startup" option doesn't do anything under my non-admin profile.

I tried going to the Mac's Login Items, but I'm unable to add Mullvad. I choose the application, I am NOT prompted for admin credentials, and Mullvad doesn't appear in the Login Items section. No errors appear.

Mullvad properly starts on login under my admin profile.

I tried reinstalling Mullvad, didn't help.

The Mullvad browser uses the the Open source code from Firefox, but now we now Firefox have this "Privacy Preserving Attribution" feature that tracks us.

Mullvad browser have this to?

Original Title: If someone pays with monero is it really anonymous since mullvad still knows that you have purchased it with monero so it breaks the anonymity since it is known that the transaction has occured and they know your ip?

Is it really anonymous if you pay with monero since they already see everything?

In Ubuntu 24, is it possible to choose only one or several specific apps to run through Mullvad? When using split tunnelling, the excluded apps are not working smoothly. It is as if Mullvad is still messing with these apps or with potential dependencies. So instead of Excluding specific apps I want to Target specific apps. Possible?

Hey everyone,

I'm encountering an issue with Mullvad’s Local Network Sharing feature and hoping someone here might have a solution or workaround.

The problem: I can access devices on the same subnet as my device (e.g., 192.168.1.X) just fine. However, I’m unable to reach devices on other VLANs/subnets (e.g., 192.168.12.X), even though Mullvad’s description suggests that the Local Network Sharing feature should allow this.

When I disable Mullvad, everything works as expected, and I can reach devices across subnets without any issues.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Is there an immediate solution or any workaround I could implement to make this work as intended?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Currently I have

VPN settings

  1. DNS blockers all turned on (ads, trackers etc) I turned these on manually is it ok ? Makes sense to I think ?
  2. WireGuard port automatic?
  3. WireGuard obfuscation automatic ?
  4. Udp-over-tcp port automatic?
  5. Quantum-resistant tunnel automatic?
  6. WireGuard mtu default ?

API access

  1. Direct on?
  2. Mullvad bridges on?

Thanks

I am skeptical as to why Mullvad offers a free public DNS service. Usually companies do this for marketing research. But Mullvad is supposed to be a company that champions human privacy. So why would they offer free public DNS services?

Hi!

New Mullvad user here,

I was wondering if speeds I am getting are normal, my "daily" bandwith without VPN is around 1Gbps, while connecting to Mullvad server in my country via OpenVPN I get 20% of my ISP speed, changing the server anythwer in the world it stays around that mark of 20%. I did some research and tried variour configurations in the OVPN config file itself but nothing seems to work, I found a thread on an old forum which suggests that the router (I have the ISP included router and financially saving for a new one) might be too weak too handle the VPN, might it be the case?

Using Mullvad on my PC, not the router.

I wanted to get a vpn mainly for video streaming but also for gaming, i've heard that mullvad isn't the best for netflix and other stuff, should I just choose nordvpn?

Does Mullvad have any plans on making an actual app for Mac that launches from the dock?

I am trying to get people to sign up, but they want an actual app and think the way it sits only in the top is weird.

For example, my girlfriend refuses to use it because it only pops up and instead uses Proton because she likes how the app sits on her Macbook Air screen.

I know others who hate the design too, and use Nord instead.

How hard would it be to make an actual mac app that sits in the dock?

There are a lot of people out there who think form is as important as function, which is often why they buy Apple products.

The way this is set up seems lazy and not designed for mainstream use.

Even if you have encrypted your traffic with a VPN, advanced traffic analysis is a growing threat against your privacy. Therefore, we have developed DAITA – a feature that’s now supported on iOS.

Our VPN app on all desktop platforms already supports DAITA. We have now extended this support to iOS with the release of version 2024.7.

How to Enable

  1. Open the app on your iOS device.
  2. Navigate to Settings → VPN settings → DAITA.
  3. Ensure the setting is switched to On.
  4. If DAITA isn’t available on your current location you need go to the Switch location view and select a location that supports DAITA.

Once the VPN connection is established, you’ll notice “using DAITA” next to the server name on the main view of the app, confirming your connection.

For now, DAITA is only available on select servers in Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles and New York, but you can use Multihop to enter through a DAITA-supported server and exit through any location you want.

I first started using MullVAD on August 19th, 2024, just for fun to test it out and see how it worked. I really liked it tbh, love the complete anonymity of how things work. After signing up and installing it, I've been using it like 80% of the time. I'm a blogger and like to test things and tell people about them, which was the purpose here.

August 29th I first received the "We suspect automated behavior on your account" message on Facebook.

I use some AI tools (Albato, Zapier, IFTTT, boost.space, etc) for testing and fun stuff as well. Once getting thatr message though, I removed all of them from Meta/FB. Everything deleted and permissions removed. Don't want to break the rules - I actually use FB quite a lot, and not even for conspiracy theories or memes :Þ

Tonight though, September 23, 2024, I got the message again.

Nothing of significance has changed, other than MullVAD. The only thing that's happened between then and now is I picked up the new Google Pixel 9 Pro XL phone. Logically it seems like the VPN is what's wrong :/ I would not be surprised in the slightest to learn that someone had been using a VPN to harvest data (or whatever they were doing) and breaking terms of service while doing it, especially without KYC.

I've removed MullVAD and won't be using it anymore. I've also removed the FB app from the new phone, just in case.

Making this post just in case someone were to search for these terms while having similar issues. Maybe it's not the VPN. I do think it is, though. Guess I'll find out one way or another haha
