Hi, everyone.

I have been playing with my old computer recently trying to boost its performance. It is a Lenovo Yoga 720 15 with an I7 7700HQ.

I noticed that there are two throttlings. One is power limit throttling while the other is thermal throttling. The latter is probably due to the degradation of the thermal paste and I decide to replace it with a new thermal pad. The first one is more tricky, the power consumption of cpu will be limited to 30W and trigger power limit throttling after a few seconds even if I set PL1 to 45W. Here are my two questions:

(1) Are there any methods to increase the threshold temperature of thermal throttling?

(2) Is it possible to change the bios to increase the power supply so as to prevent the CPU from power limit throttling?

Any recommendations for the laptop described in the title? I'm looking for something around the price range of £1400.

I have two choices.

I can either get a legion slim 5 or slim 7i

Slim 5:

(price:$1650)

Processor AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840HS Processor

Display Type (2560 x 1600), IPS, 100% sRGB

Memory 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) SO-DIMM DDR5 5600MHz

Hard Drive 512 GB SSD

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce® RTX™ 4060 Laptop GPU 8GB GDDR6 128 bit

Slim 7i:

(Price: $1880)

Processor Intel® Core™ i7-13700H Processor

Memory 16 GB Soldered DDR5 5200MHz

Hard Drive 1TB NVME Gen4 M.2 SSD

Display Type 3.2K(3200×2000)DCI-P3, 430 nits, 165Hz

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce® RTX™ 4060 Laptop GPU 8GB GDDR6 128 bit

The slim 7i offers better display colour quality and resolution (but is the resolution even worth it because I will game at 1080p or 1440p anyway?) It offers higher storage size and idk if Intel or AMD is better in this case as the answers I get are mized. The slim 5 offers ram that isn't soldered so I can upgrade it anytime, I can always get a 1TB SSD if I want to upgrade that too?

The only obvious difference is the display quality and maybe the processor too but I don't know which is better than the other.

Hi! I'm trying to buy a laptop mainly for work, but I will use it a lot for gaming too.

For work:

  • I will use it for programs like Photoshop, After Effects, Animate, Premiere, Illustrator, inDesign, Maya, Blender, TVPaint, Krita, OpenToonz, Toon Boom Harmony and Storyboard, Unity, Unreal, etc.
  • I was searching for something with a powerful CPU and GPU that can handle multitasking, rendering, animation etc
  • Display quality is also important because I will draw on it and I need the colors, resolution and brightness to be good.
  • I know that probably all of these laptops can support these programs, but I wanted to know which one is the most powerful and what you would reccomend.

For gaming:

  • I don't know if these are powerful enough, because my budget isn't that high, but I wanted to play some newer games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield. I just want to know which one of these laptops is the most powerful and able to support more games out of them all.
  • I have another laptop, it's not bad but it always overheats and as soon as I start a game the fans get very loud. I want to avoid this problem in the new laptop if possible.

The chart:

  • I made a chart to compare between the laptops I'm choosing, but I can send the links if you need more info, I didn't put everything because it would be too much info and I think these are the most important specs (but tell me if I'm wrong)
  • The colors of the CPU/GPU go from red (most powerful), yellow, green, blue (least powerful). Chosen according to notebookcheck.

Questions:

  1. I don't know what IP5 means for the Lenovo Legion display, is it not IPS? Which one has the best display out of all four laptops?
  2. Are they all good quality or is any of them known to have problems like overheating, loose hinges, display problems, trouble with fixing or upgrading components, etc?
  3. Some have a powerful GPU, but not the best CPU and viceversa. What should I prioritize for work and gaming?

Thank you so much for reading! These laptops are all very similar, at least to me, and I'm really having trouble deciding. I'm in a hurry too and have to decide between today and tomorrow, I'm a bit stressed lol

Good day Comrades! I have MSI Laptop - Vector GP66. I often need to switch my screens, from monitor to tv and vice versa. I have connected my monitor through Display Port and TV is connected v ia HDMI cable. But I connect them individually, not both. For example when I need TV I connect HDMI to laptop. When I need monitor I connect Display PORT. The problem is that if laptop is running and I do disconnected HDMI and put display port, the DP is not working. And vice versa if DP was connected and i disconnect and connect HDMI it does not work. Until I do laptop shutdown. Did somebody faced this already? FYI I am new to reddit and dont know if I posted my question in right place. Thanks you for your answers!

My CPU usage is consistently above 50% just when Edge is open, and it is constantly at 100% when I play CPU-intensive games like FIFA 22. The RAM is also above 50%. While starting up the laptop, no startup apps are enabled except for the security health systray. Still, the CPU will be at 100% usage for a minute or 2. I have tried a few online methods, but none are working. What should I do?

Original Title: My laptop only has three USB ports, which is not enough for me because I use a keyboard, mouse, microphone, and webcam, so I have to use an additional USB port. But their quality decreases incredibly when I plug my mic and webcam into the USB port. They maintain the quality only if I plug them...

directly to the laptop. I am curious if this is happening because I use an old USB hub or something else and what should I do?

Thanks in advance.

Is it worth upgrading my MSI Delta 15 (6700M) to the MSI Stealth 14 (4060)? It’s on sale for $1199 right now.

I've seen a new acer nitro 16 with 1x16 ram,165hz , 1TB storage, rtx 4060 and ryzen 7 7840hs that is in my price range (around 1300 usd in my country) however i wondered if there would be significant loss in performance with 1x16?

Hello, I'm wondering if I should get i5 12450h with 3050/4gb or Ryzen 5 5600h 3060/6gb or i5 11400h with 3060/6gb, in all other aspects the laptops are the same. Thanks for all the future help!

Hey everyone, I'm really looking forward to playing Starfield and was wondering what kind of laptop setups you all have. Specifically, what are your specs and at what resolution do you plan on running the game? Also, how many fps do you think you'll be getting? Just curious to see what everyone's gaming environment is like for this highly anticipated title.

I’ve got an i9 13950 HX and a 4080M 12 GB VRAM. I'm planning on playing at 1440p with high to max settings, and really hoping for above 60 fps.

I have a friend that is looking into getting their first gaming laptop (PC isn't an option at the minute)

We are aware that a PC offers more performance etc but I'm just looking for opinions.

MSI Cyborg 15 - £899.99

  • Intel Core i7-12650H 14-Core Processor
  • 15.6" Full HD 144Hz Screen
  • 16GB DDR5 RAM
  • 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 DLSS 3 Graphics

Is it worth it?

Wondering if its a poor choice, if so, any recommendations on a gaming laptop that is also future proof? (I know we can't guarantee the future proofing)

Thanks in advance!

Right now I’m gaming on an old laptop with an 8th Gen i7 processor. Would a 12/13th Gen i7 be a significant upgrade in performance? Or should I invest in the jump up to the i9?

What specs should the laptop I buy have for AI tasks/3d realistic models/animating/motion capture/training AI?

I need a laptop for synthesizing real peoples voices through AI , auto-generating people's responses through AI, turning real people into photorealistic 3d models that are as close to reality as possible, animating 3d models facial expressions via Unreal Engine 5's MetaHuman animator, using motion capture through kinect, auto-generating 3d models facial expressions and movement through AI, training AI.

What laptop specs do I need to be able to do all this on my laptop?

I'll pay whatever the cost for such laptop.
