I know that Threads is planning to join the Fediverse eventually. Has there been any update from them on the timeframe?

Well, just an intro for my case. You may skip to the next paragraph. I'm interested to have a single-user instance which is more simpler than Mastodon, and GoToSocial catches my eye. Even though I have experience as a total non-tech to be able to run a Mastodon server by myself from a scratch by very detailed documentation, but I totally have no idea where to start for GoToSocial with their concise documentation. That's why I decided to find a managed hosting for this.

There are 2 sites I know, already tried, and didn't meet my expectations, which are Fedi.monster and Cloudplane. So, I would like to ask if anyone know any more of managed hosting service for GtS please? Seach engine doesn't help much and that's why I'm here.

Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for an instance themed around people that like gaming (gacha genre). Does such an instance like that exist? If not, what instance(s) would be the most suited if I want to find gacha game content from both JP and EN members? (I'm EN)

Everytime I submit my details it shows "error has occurred" with a button that says "got it", and I tried signing in to see if it worked, but it hasn't.

I’m new to fediverse so forgive me, but why do some users from other instances show up for me and others don’t? I can see some users, for example, from misskey.io but not others and if I navigate to certain users (that I know exist) in my instance manually it tells me there’s nothing there. And they don’t show up in the search. The servers aren’t blocked or restricted from each other. Why does this happen? I’m excited about the prospect of fediverse, but it doesn’t feel as interconnected with other servers as I hoped it would. I want to be able to find and follow other people who post things I care about no matter their server.

Does anyone know a way to make that happen or a plugin to try? I'm pretty new to all this so I'm not even sure if that is possible?

Thanks in advance for any info

Hi. Wanted to make you aware of a couple of projects of mine.

https://nsfw.social

and

https://nsfw.lgbt

They are a couple of Reddit (and Twitter) alternatives.

Still in the "user acceptance testing" phase so I'd love to hear your feedback.

The sites are running Calckey (now Firefish).

FediForum is "the unconference for the people who move the Fediverse forward". Or so we like to believe :-)

Following up on the very successful inaugural FediForum in March this year, we are organizing another on September 20 and 21st. It's on-line.

More details and registration: https://fediforum.org/

With all the recent Fediverse momentum, there is even more to discuss than at our first event in March. More people and projects to know. More problems to solve. More ideas and innovation to teach and learn about. And what will we all do about Meta's Threads and its future support for ActivityPub? Let's figure it out together.

Not sure whether that's for you? Check out the session notes from the event in March: https://fediforum.org/2023-03/

I'm assuming that if I have an instance and follow one user on another instance, that entire instance will then show up in my global feed, or just that one users feed and whatever they boost/see in their own instance?

Is there a way just to follow the entire instance, or "actively" federate with an instance, like pull in their data, rather than wait until a user follows someone there? Like a global, just plain domain, without the username?

On that note - seems like the general user journey is a bit 'broken' in comparison to legacy social - where if I go to an instance and end up wanting to boost a post from there, I have to go back to my home instance and copy that post link/username.

Is there no way to browse an instance from my home server?

(I apologize in advance for the probably very dumb question.)

In reddit, I can do a search (for example "strike writers") and see all posts, comments, users and conmunities containing those words, sorted however I want.

From what I understand, if I use an app like Mastodon or Lemmy, there is no way to do a global search (across all instances). Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is the opposite of what I want when I'm searching for something - I don't want to see less things. I want to see all results, and then filter further only if I feel the need to do so.

Is there a way (in the fediverse apps) to do an "everything search"?

If not, in the search aspect, would it be more accurate to describe fediverse instances as different apps (like facebook, twitter and reddit) rather than different communities within an app like Reddit?

I've put up a Friendica instance at: https://fedireal.com. It is by approval as I want to keep the instance manageable on my limited resources. I used this tutorial: https://www.nequalsonelifestyle.com/2022/07/30/creating-friendica-server-ubuntu/. One thing needs to be done and that is the php version says 8.1 and needs to be changed to 8.2 when editing (nano) php.ini. If you're brave and can put up with a conservative old guy as admin I would love to have you join and speak of Activity pub software and links to all things educational. I would like to keep politics there to a minimum as that subject is far to inflammable.

Some retro hackers have put in some amazing legwork into connecting their old PCs to the fediverse, with custom clients specially made for vintage operating systems.

Can anyone direct me as to how to upload and install a new theme on Friendica? I am nothing more than a copy/paster but find I can do it if I pay attention. I can't seem to find a theme on Friendica now except Frio and Vier. I believe Smoothly used to be included but now there are just the two and neither does anything with images in posts. Thanks for any knowledge you can give me. I hadn't put up an instance since last year so was surprised to see only two available themes.
