Title says it all folks. I've wanted to archive a website's files throughout all of its snapshots. To be specific, I'm looking only for the swf files. Sadly, I can't find any tools to make my job easier.

I used to use https://github.com/hartator/wayback-machine-downloader, and it used to work well, but for some reason, now it gives me the same old HTML error 400.

Any good (and preferably free) tools to help me out?

I have a Seagate Momentus 7200.4. It's only 500GB but I'd like to put it to use. Is there an apparatus that can read internal laptop drives without having the laptop? Is this a good idea?

I have a 4 unRAID servers that I built, each with Seagate 10TB drives. I have recently ordered 24TB drives to replace the old 10TB drives as they are getting full. I was thinking about simply powering the systems off, keeping the data in place and building entirely new towers, but I don't want to do that. I was thinking maybe archive.org, or maybe some other non-profit might want them, but not sure how I'd go about finding something like that. Another option is to archive a bunch of crap from archive.org and then put them in my garage. Right now they have home media crap, which will be moved to the new drives, leaving these ones empty.

What are some good uses for 64 10TB drives?

To make a long story short, I have 24TB of data, a significant chunk being movies and TV shows. I have to back up most of it due to hardware failure. I have an 18TB External hard drive.

A lot of these are duplicates I can hopefully just copy over once, and rebuild some of my media collection somewhat from that.

So how can I use Windows to list all of the files in these directories and help me cross reference which are duplicates?

EDIT1: Hope I'm not too late, but I forgot to mention where the files reside are on a network share!

EDIT2: I can discard 2.75TB of the data because it is Time Machine backups and I can always redo them.

I am looking for cloud storage to backup 3TB files (photo, video, documents). Currently looking at Microsoft 365 Family cloud storage, $99/year, 6 accounts, 1TB each. If I want to backup all 3TB, I need to distribute to all 6 accounts because each account can only store maximum 1TB.

Then I learned about rclone union, which I can combine all 6x 1TB into a virtual storage group of 6TB. As I read, I need to add each account into rclone, then create a union.

Is anyone using this setup? Once setup is done, is it reliable? I mean that I can simply upload files using rclone to the union and rclone will manage, distribute the files among 6 accounts automatically. If there are reasons that I shouldn't do this, please tell me.

I don't have any experience with rclone before. So, please share your experience. Thank you.

Alternatively, I also think about getting storage box 5TB from Hetzner, but looking around at it's sub, getting a new account can be difficult.

I am uploading a 10GB collection to the archive.org, and obvioustly, I can't left the tab opened for the day or so. If I close the tab I started upload from, will that abort it? If yes, then what's the way to speed up the upload?

edit: I solved the problem. thanks for helping out! ;)

I have a pcie 4.0 m.2 expansion card (ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 PCIe 4.0 X4 Expansion Card Supports 4 NVMe M.2 (2242/2260/2280/22110) up to 256Gbps for AMD 3rd Ryzen sTRX40, AM4 Socket and Intel VROC NVMe Raid https://a.co/d/iYrJvwS) with two 4tb drives in it currently, both combined into 1 partition. If/when I add another drive or two to the card, can I loop that storage into the same partition, without causing any issues with what's already stored on the current drives?

I am a noob in data hoarding and have been managing with two HDDs with 1TB each.

.

I have some few YouTube videos and some photos I downloaded from twitter and reddit which is about 140GB (138GB to be precise). I don't actually use them, but I also don't feel like deleting them either.

So I am planning to compress it to the max like at least make it less than 100GB and store it in an old 256GB HDD.

I tried compressing the files using WinRaR and 7z, but the file size was still around 130-132GB?

Is there any way to make it less than 100GB (preferably 80-90GB) ?

Hi everybody. I currently have a desktop PC at home and I use a 14 TB Seagate Expansion as my external HDD. I use it to store my backup and also my Steam games. However, it is running out of space and I am thinking of the alternatives.

One of them would be to buy a larger external drive (20 or 24 TB), but I wonder whether it would eventually run out of space as well.

I thought of a NAS but I am afraid the speed would not be enough to run Steam games on the external drive.

Than I run into some DAS solutions which I found quite nice and reasonably affordable. First, the Yottamaster Y-Focus 5-bay caught my attention. But then I found the Orico 5-bay magnetic HD enclosure, and it seems to be very nice, not only because it is cheaper than the Yottamaster solution, but mainly because it can connect the HDs quickly without the use of any tools (and I am very bad at using them).

So I thought I would buy the Orico enclosure, put one or two HDs inside it, and them buy more as I need them. Any downsides? Any specific type of HD that I should use? Anything that I am not taking into account?

Thanks.

My mother's computer is a 2012 Mac Mini. It has a 1TB system drive, which has about 100GB free. It has an 8TB storage drive connected to it (with photos, etc; it's got about 5TB free) and a 20TB Time Machine drive backing it all up.

We got a new M4 Mac Mini with a 512GB internal SSD, and a new 8TB external SSD for storage. Right on cue, the old Mac's system drive started showing signs of corruption. I'm hoping I can transfer the contents of the 8TB storage drive to the new 8TB external SSD, and then use an older Time Machine backup to put the Users folder from the old Mac on the 8TB external drive and run it from there.

Apparently this isn't a simple thing to do. Any tips?

So im going to build a 1PB NAS with 63(or so) Toshiba MG09 18TB drives, considering doing RAID-Z3 (ZFS) for reliability and performance. Adding 7 hot spares for failover and using spin-down to extend drive life(sort of, i dont add to my nas that often so using spin down would actually help). Im looking for advice on where to buy new drives and optimizing the setup if needed. I cant seem to find any places that dan sell me the enterprise/cloud-scale drives(since they arnt really consumer drives. Im doing enterprise/cloud-scale cuz its better for what im trying to do and the amount of drives.

After seeing a recent video on LTT about 20TB drives on serverpartdeals.com being around $200CAD I checked the website out for myself. Australian dollars have about the same value as Canadian dollars so the price should have been very close but on the serverpartdeals website the price for 20TB drives was around $400AUD at the lowest going way, way up (over $1000) for some drives.

Why is there such a big difference from what LTT legitimately showed in the video?

They said that they paid retail, that the video was not sponsored and they didn't get any preferential pricing.

Also I just checked for price and availability of 500GB SATA SSD's and most of the prices I saw were around $700. There were a few drives that were around $110 but that price is more then retail for a new drive.

This makes absolutely no sense. Are the prices bugged on the serverpartdeals website?

Ordered a 8TB seagate barracuda from Amazon (I know, I know, but grandma gave me a gift card, so I took a shot) everything is physically fine and it’s doing initial formatting right now - but I registered for the warranty at seagate’s website and it says I got an IronWolfPro? Is this a classic “Amazon doesn’t know their behind from a hole-in-the-ground” situation or should I be more worried?

Hi everyone,

I recently discovered a treasure trove of my grandfather's photography. Thousands of photos in miraculous condition from the late 1920s-1990s. As a professional photographer myself, this discovery feels incredibly meaningful, and I want to do justice to his work by properly digitizing and preserving these images for future generations.

I'm looking to invest in a high-quality, professional scanner that will allow me to archive these photos at the best possible resolution and quality. Here are some details about my setup and requirements:

  • Hardware: I use a Mac setup.
  • Materials: The archive includes prints, 120 and 35mm negatives, and slides.
  • Quality: I’m aiming for professional-grade scans.
  • Future-proofing: I want to ensure these digital files are preserved in the highest quality for future generations.

Does anyone have recommendations for scanners that would be ideal for this kind of project? I’ve heard good things about the Epson Perfection V850, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve worked on similar archival projects.

Any tips would also be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi! I am not sure if this is the right subreddit so let me know!

Obviously, media is disappearing. Right now I am hoping to download all my TikTok (I know this is recent was not really planning to), music, my online photos and some TV Shows.

I know an external storage would be best. Honestly, I am not the most tech savvy and struggle to understand it. Any tips for how to best store or what to buy? Let me know!

“Ew windows?!?” I know I know…

Sorry for the noob question. I use stable bit drive pool for file duplication across several drives. But I was wondering if there is a way to back up or create a snapshot of my boot drive so if/when it dies I can restore the snapshot to a new drive and not have to reinstall windows and reconfigure settings etc.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've heard for several years now that SMR drives have hit the market but for some reason I've never seen a purchase link to any of them. Does anyone know what models or pages I should be looking at in order to buy one? And does anyone know if there are any storage capacities of 8TB and above when it comes to SMR drives? Thanks!
