Hello everyone. First off, sorry that not everything might be in order. I wrote things down as they came to mind.
A while ago I upgraded my 7700K to a 12700K, running on a DDR4 (DDR5 was still too expensive) Asus Z690-P Wifi D4. It's cooled by an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360. From time to time I did oc it, but always ended up reverting to default settings for one specific reason.
No matter what I do, as soon as its not default settings in Bios, the CPU ramps up to sometimes (maybe every 4th boot on average) close to 100°C when entering Windows. This happens even with an oc of just 5 Ghz all core, which is only 200Mhz above default. It's every time just for 1-10 seconds at random, altough its usually closer to 1 sec than 10 sec. This never happens when entering the bios, temps there are always fine.
Last week I decided to finally keep searching for the problem until I fixed it. And it was fixed, until yesterday.
My best guess is that the pump doesn't turn on. However, this also doesn't make much sense because it doesn't happen with default bios settings. Only increasing the multiplier shouldn't affect that in any way (right?).
Last week I switched the header that the pump and 3 fans are connected to from CPU1 to PUMP. Originally I connected only the pump to the PUMP header, but that does not give me an rpm readout. So I connected the pump with 3 fans as is the default setup for that AiO, and kept the fans running at at least 40% at all times, because iirc the pump runs at double the % of the fan speed and I want the pump to always go fast, especially on boot. But that doesn't prevent the short overheating issue either. I also tried both DC and PWM.
My second guess is that the voltage spikes for whatever reason too high when booting into windows, so I set the default voltage to adaptive 1.35V and the absolute max voltage to no more than 1.5V at any given time. The limits are also working perfectly fine when reading it out with CPU-Z.
This is currently in effect and thus doesn't fix the issue either.
Btw, except for that issue the cooling is incredibly good. While idling the CPU cores are, according to HWMonitor and other software, always just a few °C above room temperature. And under full load on default settings in cinebench 23 the temp barely hits 60 to 65°C. So i highly doubt its a general cooling issue.
The only thing I have in mind to test if it's the AiO is to buy either a different one or an air cooler. Before I do that though I wanted to ask you guys if anyone has any idea what this might be caused by.
