Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal is, in my opinion, so much better than the original, and that's a hill I would die on.

What are some other insanely popular tracks where a cover by a much smaller artist is arguably greater?

So, my boyfriend is a huge Rick Astley fan. He’s been obsessed with his cover of “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” from Glastonbury. Naturally, I started listening to it too because it’s always playing when he’s around.

A few days ago, he casually mentioned that the song is actually a cover, and he introduced me to the original by The Smiths. Let me just say, it was like a whole new world opened up for me. I’ve been listening to the entire "The Queen Is Dead" album on repeat, and I can’t get enough.

It’s kind of cool how music you love can lead you to discover even more amazing artists. Has anyone else had this experience of falling in love with the original after hearing a cover first? I'd love to hear your stories!

I mostly use Spotify to stream and listen to music and that's where I find most of my new music. Occasionally I listen to music on YouTube when I'm at work which also provides some avenues for music discovery as it uses a different algorithm to Spotify but I was wondering if there are really good places to purely find new music from artists I may not necessarily know. All answers are welcome!!

I adore Styx. My personal favorite band from the 70s, actually (Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd are all awesome but Tommy Shaw and co are next level.

Everyone probably knows Come Sail Away, Renegade, and Mr Roboto. But Crystal Ball and Suite Madame Blue are also essential listening.

Based on my appearance I usually get the stereotypical popular girl artists like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. anything pop or country.

Vs me actually listening to: Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Fleshwater, System of a Down. Basically anything classic rock/metal.

It wasn't always this way (X) (x) (×).... Feels like something that happened in the past 10 years or so.... BONUS POINTS: If you can pinpoint the exact record that coined this phrasing I'd appreciate it?? .... Merp. ✌️

I use Youtube music and it might be a problem specific to the app but it constantly skips over most of their songs due to a warning. I've confirmed that I don't mind countless times and my age is 18+ yet the problem persist.

I'm even unable to download most of their songs, I tried downloading the "Rage Against The Machine" album and the only song that downloads is "Take the Power Back".

Not to mention the warning talks about "suicide or self harm topics" WHERE? I'm sorry but it's so subtle compared to other bands I like and those other groups have zero warnings

I've tried asking this on the specific subreddit but it's restricted and I had to send a request to post.

What is going on? Seriously??

I was just listening to Reasons For Waiting by Ian Anderson, and there's an orchestral part. I don't think Anderson had an extensive music education, so who writes the violin parts and such on this and other rock songs? Are there orchestral ghost writers who listen to the song and then write the accompanying parts?

In the 80s and 90s, she was very popular but now her streams are very low when compared to her brother or Whitney Houston or Madonna or Prince or Cyndi Lauper. Why do you think that is? I think it's because she doesn't have that one song that everyone finds popular. I also think her better songs are more smooth and less poppy. That's the Way Love Goes is a great song though. Should have more streams.
