I was at a concert a few years ago for a band that I have been a fan of almost my entire life, when the crowd started singing along with one of the songs. I quickly realized, I had no idea what the lyrics were outside of the chorus. I then attempted to follow along with every song played after that but could not recall any lyrics. After this experience I went home and started listening to songs with a specific focus on lyrics and realized even songs I have listened to hundreds of times, I could hum along with the song without issue, but the actual words were lost on me. When asking my friends, none of them related with what I was saying, not for music they were a fan of anyways. Is this a thing? It's just been on my mind again because it came up in conversation recently and ultimately, it has not changed.

For the sake of clarity, this is not isolated to one genre of music for me. Rock, pop, hip-hop, metal, and country I listen to a lot of music, and its the same across the board for me.

Edit:

This is easily the most responded-to post I have ever made, so a couple of things

  • To be clear on my post, I am a native English speaker, and I was mostly referring to songs written/performed in English. it's all music for me, and I was not aware I was doing it. This is not a choice I'm actively making.
  • Thank you for the kind comments and for sharing your experiences, at least I can now point to this post when my friends give me that weird look when I tell them this.

Howdy,

I was thinking of a few songs lately that are great songs, but the endings are super cringy and basically are always skipped. The two I have in mind are:

"You can't fight the feeling" by Mac Miller and Kendrick

"Homicide" by Logic and Eminem

Absolutely very much enjoy both of these songs, but hate the endings and always skip them. I get this is some of the personalities coming out and Mac and Logic were being funny, but maybe it's funny one time. Not again and again. Curious what other songs fall into this category. What songs do you love, but hate the ending or the ending really should have been a skit?

Multiple big artists including (what I have found so far) Lucy Pearl, King Geedorah, Swans, Women and more have all been hacked (edit: not hacked but someone is posing as these accounts) and have posted Ai generated music. This needs to be managed, please share

I read the other day how "Andy, you're a star" by The Killers was apparently a queer song. That never occurred to me before and I bought the album when it came out. The song does imply "Andy" in the song is male, but there doesn't seem to be any indication of the sex of the narrator. That got me to thinking that we just generally assume the character is the same sex as the singer.

I was trying to rack my brain for songs where it was not the case that the singer and the narrator are the same sex (not including covers where a singer covers a song originally sung by a member of the opposite sex) and I could only think of two examples, both by Taylor Swift, and both on the same album: "Betty" and the second verse of "Epiphany."

There's no particular reason the character needs to be the same sex, every other type of artist regularly creates art from the perspective of someone not the same sex as them: screenwriters, authors, etc. So I wonder why it's become the default. What other songs are out there where the singer is singing from the perspective of a character of the opposite sex?

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions! Looks like I have lots to check out.

For every concert there are usually a bunch off people who want to resell their tickets because they cannot go anymore, found better tickets, have too many tickets etc. You often see a lot of tickets still up for sale on the day of the concert itself. I doubt they all get sold in the very last minute so what do people do with them? Go afterall or throw them away?
