I’m looking at getting a pair of JBL L82s after an impressive demo in store. Problem is, my wife can’t stand the stands (pun intended) - and for the sake of bliss and harmony I tend to agree with her.

We both prefer the look of floor standers but I’ve been wooed by the combination of playful looks and dynamic sound. They are an unusual size and I wonder how they would work setup on a riser similar to the Model 3s? Any other alternatives?

I have a pair of KEF LS50 W2 paired with KC62 which is connected to Sony Bravia A95K (Android TV) using eARC. I use this setup to listen to music as well as watch movies. I am curious if I should stream music from Tidal/Spotify using the App on TV to powered speakers (connected using eARC) or use the Tidal Connect/Spotify Connect to stream directly from the speakers. What is the quality of audio output (kbps, bit, kHZ) for Sony Bravia A95K? I heard Samsung TVs (Tizen) down sample the audio quality therefore I wonder if with Sony/Android TV compresses the sound too.

I usually play to my speakers via airplay over wifi and am wondering whether increases in wifi quality also boost sound quality.

That said, my current wifi connection isn’t bad by any means. I live in a 1 bed in NYC so my current plan is speeds up to 300 mbps.

But if I upgrade to 500 or 1 gig, would the sound quality be better? or is there a limit?

Hi, I'm a retrogamer and live in a tiny apartment, so that means I have to fill a big ass CRT TV and my 3.1 speakers in a very constrained space, and since the magnet inside the speakers mess up CRT screens, I'm thinking of buying magnetically shielded speakers so I don't have to compromise so much their placement in the room.

I wanted to know if the JBL studio 6 speakers are magnetically shielded. I know the Studio 5 line was shielded, but I couldn't find any information regarding the Studio 6.

I currently have 3.1 speakers from the JBL Stage line (with 2 bookshelves). I tried shielding them using magnets as per these guides [1], [2], [3], but didn't get acceptable results (the TV image was still messed up by the speakers).

I tried to find some used Studio 5 speakers but it seems nobody has them here in Brazil (maybe they weren't even sold here idk), so my options are kinda limited here since we don't have a lot of brands you guys have in the US or Europe, so the Studio 6 seems to be my last effort of getting shielded speakers 😅.

Post a link (Spotify, Tidal, etc) to one track that you'd like everyone else to give a listen to on their rigs. Let's share music and grow our collections and test song lists. I hope this post is ok for this subreddit. LMK if it's not, mods.

One track per person!

I'll start.

Just got a pair of the KEF R3 Meta in the Indigo Gloss. They sure look fantastic. Have them paired with my PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium preamp, PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP power amp, and PS Audio DirectStream DAC. Can't say I'm enjoying the sound all that much. I went off the reviews like most of us do, but they sound very thin to my ears. They have that typical "try as hard as possible to impress at the showroom" sound. But there is a very disappointing thinness to the midrange. Instruments and male vocals lack any sort of lower midrange body, and makes the entire sound very upper-mid heavy and fatiguing. The upper mid definitely sound clean and detailed, with very good harmonic detail. The lower levels of treble distortion can be heard due to that "meta" technology. But the overall balance of the sound is just wonky to me. If I listen to absolutely pristine recordings, of course it sounds decent. But venture away from perfect recordings, and they're very difficult to listen to.

Has anyone else felt this way about the R3 Meta? Maybe the bigger floor standers wouldn't have this issue? I do have them paired with my JL Audio sub, and they do seem to integrate very well with that, best integration I've heard out of any speakers I've owned.

Like less than 5 dollar cheap? Because we don't need a DAC right? We are just converting one digital signal to another.

For the longest while I've had Mp3's on my phone and they've been ok, but the last couple years I've started to transition to m4a and in most of the music I can honestly hear a difference whether it be in clarity or the volume of the song. It sounds cleaner all round. Not everything is on iTunes however so I am stuck with some MP3, but does anyone else do this?

Hi guys, I'm building a home theatre (19'9" x 13'). I have speakers by Paradigm and a denon receiver already from my previous home theatre (which was not properly planned)

I want this time to be a proper home theatre, so I will be installing a wall to wall carpet, and raised rows for seating. I need help with the acoustic treatment.

After watching a few videos on YouTube, I've understood that acoustic treatment is to reduce the reverb/echo. My questions are-

  1. How much of the surface area of wall/ceiling be covered with acoustic panels
  2. What type of finish should be done on the rest of the wall area?
  3. Do we need to make reverb/echo zero? Is there a tool to measure this?

Thanks in advance

Abhinav

My moms rich friend gifted me some open baffle speakers (two fast-8 and two visaton bg17), and I am (almost) completely new to everything acoustics. I’ve done some surface level research

I’ve got some experience in Astrophotography and I know there are some similarities between cameras and microphones, and that’s acoustics right?? I also do music in high school currently.

Some questions: (some of these may be googlable but reading something someone wrote hastily tickles my brain better than some Wikipedia article)

What are some good communities to learn more? Maybe a discord server?

What’s a driver, and what does it do?

How do speakers make sound, and what does the board/box in an open/box design do specifically? Is it like putting a tuning fork in a box?

What material for a board? And what is this board called (if there’s a better term)? Also, what shape and size? Mr rich dude said he may be able to get me a premade “board” when he goes to China.

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask, looking to get pointed to the right direction

THANK YOU

I have a set of desktop B&W DM601 s2’s. They were a used gift and after looking into them, every single image of them has the grills off.

1- Is that objectively better sounding? 2- How do I take them off? Just pry off the outer grill?

I know not everyone gets the tingle response from good music but I get it really easy. Especially if I am not sober. I just wanted to see if yall had any that do that for you! I have no limitations on genre tbh I am an avid genre lover haha

Dear Audiophiles.

I have recently received my fathers old Sansui AU 9500 back from a full service. There are paired up with B&W CDM1 speakers.

My good friend makes his own turntables and I will soon purchase one from him with an acrylic plate and the chassis made of rosewood. I have an old Garrard 401 record player with a SME 3012 tonearm. The tonearm needs service and a new cartridge. My question is which cartridge to choose? I have heard good things about both Sumiko and Ortofon, but I have no clue on what to choose.

My budget is within 300-400 american dollars.

Thanks for you time and considerations.
