I have been getting connection timeouts with this provider since earlier this afternoon, at least 3 hrs now. Doing a "Test" connection within SABnzbd is also failing. Other Usenet providers continue to work and I haven't changed anything.

Curious to know if others are also experiencing issues today?

Hi all,

Happy National Face Your Fears Day! As if life wasn’t scary enough, now there's an entire day dedicated to making you face whatever terrifies you. If the thought of going outside gives you chills, don't worry — StingyUsenet is here to help you avoid that terrifying real-world encounter. Instead, why not face your fears by diving into the endless, sometimes sketchy depths of the internet? It’s safer (probably), and way more fun than interacting with humans IRL. Oh, and did we mention we’re offering a 35% discount on our one-and-only Usenet plan? Because apparently, facing your fears should come with a reward.

Let’s be honest, who really wants to confront the fear of… well, anything, when you can curl up with your computer and explore Usenet from the safety of your couch? At StingyUsenet, we think facing the never-ending stream of online content is challenge enough. After all, navigating the labyrinth of files, forums, and archives can be just as daunting as stepping foot into the great unknown (aka your front yard).

As of right now until Tuesday the 15th of October (12:00 CET), you'll get 35% discount!

Meaning:

| Days | Without discount | With discount | |

|

|

| | 30 | € 4,95 | € 3,22 | | 180 | € 28,95 | € 18,82 | | 365 | €54,95 | € 35,72 |

Already a customer? Click below:

https://stingyusenet.com/en/control-panel/?_xnav=discounts&_xclick=use-discount&discount_id=national-face-your-fears-day-2024

So, on this National Face Your Fears Day, why not take the plunge and sign up for Stingyusenet? It’s not as terrifying as going outside, and with 35% off, it’s a small step toward financial bravery. Face your fear of missing out (FOMO, anyone?) on endless content, while avoiding the real world entirely. And hey, if this whole "facing your fears" thing doesn’t pan out, at least you’ve got a great Usenet deal to keep you company.

Cheers!

It looks like only credit cards can now be used to pay now, at least I don't see another available payment method. Can someone confirm / clarify this?

Just got upgraded to 2.5G internet. Before I go and get a 2.5G-capable SFP-to-RJ45 module, just wondering what speeds I should expect from NewsgroupDirect? I already have a 2.5G switch and adapters for a few of my computers. Just need to connect the last link between my UDMP SE and 2.5G switch.

Not wanting to dis the devs of the nzbget reboot but after years of using v21 I'm unsure if it's worth upgrading. Going through r/nzbget I can see people are having problems - as can be expected with any application. I'm lazy so I'm weighing the possibility of hours of debugging against enhanced performance and features.

Compared to the stuff I used to use, like xnews or alt.binz, nzbget works like a dream. I prefer it to Sabnzbd. Totally satisfied with 21's performance so I'd like to know if there are any reasons that would make an upgrade worthwhile. Appreciate the opinions of those who've done an install.

Have the potential to get a deal on Tabula membership and being told it’s one of the absolute best out there. Is it worth adding?

I recently bought a $60 yearly Unlimited package from Frugal Usenet but have been let down severely. Roughly 90% of my attempts to download have failed due to missing files. I reached out to their support hoping for a refund, given the service’s poor performance, and they've asked me to send the nzb files from the failed downloads. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced similar issues? Did you manage to get a refund, and did you have to provide nzb files?

Been running into an issue with nzbgeek. Find an article and all files are missing. Nzbplanet didn’t even show the article.

So my question, is the indexer the problem or is the Usenet Server the problem? New to this so trying to figure out where I might be going wrong.

I'm on a gigabit connection, connection to the box running nzbget is gigabit, everything is solid in terms of connection. Torrents easily get 100MB/s. UsenetExpress and Frugal sit around 15MB/s no matter what I do. What's really strange is, if I do a speed test in settings I get 50+MB/s, and while I'm doing the speedtest the connection speed on my downloads goes up to 50 and then right back down after.

Any ideas?

This morning Easynews was doing strange issues. Now I get a very old Easynews page when I log in.

I just need to know if it's me or them.

Can someone with an account log in and see if it's normal. Thanks

PS-This is the https side.

About 24 hours ago, my client started reporting a certificate failure for usenet.farm - upon checking, it expired back in January (!!!), but my client only started reporting issues yesterday. A little odd to say the least.

Anyone else seen/seeing this? Or had any response from the provider?

openssl s_client -servername news.usenet.farm -connect news.usenet.farm:443| openssl x509 -noout -dates
depth=2 C = US, O = Internet Security Research Group, CN = ISRG Root X1
verify return:1
depth=1 C = US, O = Let's Encrypt, CN = R3
verify return:1
depth=0 CN = news.usenet.farm
verify error:num=10:certificate has expired
notAfter=Jan 28 06:12:41 2024 GMT
verify return:1
depth=0 CN = news.usenet.farm
notAfter=Jan 28 06:12:41 2024 GMT
verify return:1
notBefore=Oct 30 06:12:42 2023 GMT
notAfter=Jan 28 06:12:41 2024 GMT

Initially it was about 50/50, but today it's more like 90% expired with 10% not - so presumably it's some nodes in a pool:

openssl s_client -servername news.usenet.farm -connect news.usenet.farm:443| openssl x509 -noout -dates
depth=2 C = US, ST = New Jersey, L = Jersey City, O = The USERTRUST Network, CN = USERTrust RSA Certification Authority
verify return:1
depth=1 C = GB, ST = Greater Manchester, L = Salford, O = Sectigo Limited, CN = Sectigo RSA Domain Validation Secure Server CA
verify return:1
depth=0 CN = news.usenet.farm
verify return:1
notBefore=Nov 17 00:00:00 2023 GMT
notAfter=Nov 17 23:59:59 2024 GMT

I know I can bypass certificate checking, but I'm not sure I want to!

My first anniversary of sailing is coming up. Time to evaluate, renew and/or cancel subscriptions. I purchased access to two indexers. How can I determine how much I used each of them and if it makes sense to keep both or just one?

I did not have a lot of problems finding what I was looking for with these two. They feed into Prowlarr, then Radarr and Sonarr.

Last year I paid like $12-18 for an year, and now I want to subscribe again and this is what I found.

Newshosting $155.40 a year

Newsdemon $101 a year

Easy News $90 a year

Giganews $99.96

UNS $95.40

Am i missing something or the rates are really this much?

Hi all. Seems my VIP status expired 3 weeks ago and there's no way I can see to contact them. I was on the discord but now that requires special registration.

Is there anyway to contact an admin?

Thanks!

The number of binary newsgroups is making my head swim. How do I know which groups would be good to add to my Newshosting list? Do I need to click on each one to see what kind of content they have? Sorry, good with torrents, new to usenet.

Like the title says I'm a total noob with this. I get torrenting, but I have absolutely zero knowledge of usenet or how it works. I tried looking at posts like mine but most of them know a bit more than me and they are getting advice on automation and a bunch of other apps. Can anyone point me to the basics from the ground up?

I just got a new device and I added my usenet setup Before anything else I tested my providers and Giganews keep failing and don’t know why.

This is the error I get “Cancelling hanging download NZBGet Speed Test 1GB/1GB ***** [54/547] @ Giganews (news.Giganews.com)” “Blocking Giganews for 10 sec” “Could not read from TLS-Socket: Connection closed by remote host”

Not sure what to do here

Reddit really needs a better way to manage messages. Does anyone here use an app that works well with direct messaging? The Reddit iOS app is....lacking.

I have been without power or internet for most of the last three days due to the hurricane that passed through Southeastern USA, so I am just now getting caught up. Sorry for any delays answering anyone. If I haven't answered you, please send it again.

Hey everyone,

ive got a newshosting account that ive had for years (though really annoyed that they effectively doubled my price in this years renewal!) but im looking to add a potential secondary account into the mix, ive noticed for some bizarre reason that a fair few downloads are crawling in speed wilst others are maxing out my connection (i think its newshosting rather than anything local, but im willing to hear otherwise).

Anyone suggest a good complementary host to newshosting?

This will be a little hard with rule 1 as I cannot even call out the 2 groups I've seen do this exact thing recently. (Looking I don't see anything about indexers, so I can say it's on Su, and is still on Su.)

For actual meat of this question/discovery I found "media" grabbed by Sonarr to twice this week be a strange ploy. Nothing as obvious as a small exe file, but rather a very strange lnk file with its icon changed to resemble media. The file then directs a shit ton of script operations to system32 including a "Hi!" that I was not willing to keep on my system to discover the full effect of.

These files are worrying mostly because they resemble normal media and one might open them without noticing the small arrow icon, that they're seen as real releases in sections I honestly have never had virus attempts before (0day is where this cancer usually sits) and they're roughly 1GB which is certainly a common size for genuine media.

Has anyone else encountered this suddenly spiking? I've never had it before. I'd like to name the "groups" doing it but won't do so unless I get mod approval given how strict rule 1 is.
