Constantine is one of those early childhood movies for me, I grew up watching it, it was always my go to movie for Keanu Reeves, of course the matrix was my other, just curious what you all think? And Peter Stormare as Lucifer was absolutely brilliant, if he shows up again in the second film I’ll jump for joy and I hope he has more than a 5 minute part.

Christian / exorcism movies are up there as some of my favourites, I even loved End of days with Arnold walking into a church to face the devil with an AR and a noobtoob attached, I hope to see more action in the next Constantine as well!

I very much enjoyed the movies down to place 34.

This is purely by how much I enjoyed them and not by how good a movie is done. I know Psycho is a huge step stone for cinematography but I still just disliked watching it. I am also aware Interstellar is well done, but I couldn't wait for it to be over. I really liked the story of the DnD movie but I heavily disliked the actors. And I think I am just too old (or too little American?) to watch Airplane for the first time and find it funny.

This movie is about different characters and survivor bias. It’s a movie about the importance of community in day to day lives along with emphasis of the transient and the absurd nature of life. This movie really moved me seeing the main protagonist’s journey and the wonderful people that he comes across.  This movie also presents other characters with their flaws and obligations, but the solidarity of them all when it comes to the beautiful game.

This movie follows a character of a man, who is passionate about football, who is good at football. He is reluctantly recruited to represent England’s team, he is, at this point, is characteristic of pride and a sense of entitlement. He is homeless but his situation is unacceptable even for him, telling himself that he is more than his disposition. This attitude is also present even in his interaction with his team mates. His team mates are of low calibre compared to him, but win him over in the end, because of their love, despite their rough backgrounds. All the team mates are not from England but represent England show that its not about patriotism but solidarity irrespective of one’s race. In the end we also get to know the reality behind the hero’s spiteful behaviour: he has not had his dream realized. He is deserving of more, but he was not enough and this feeling taunts him, everywhere he goes. This tournament consists of losers who don’t make it, but it’s not tragic since they all come together in spite of their own differences for the love of this beautiful game, and have this sense of community and emphasise that ultimately this is what matters.

In this world they are two types of people: who had their dreams realized and the ones who haven’t. There is this thing called survivor bias: we see only the ones who have their dreams realized. We see this all fields: sports, science, business, careers.  What about the people who also had this dream? They too have feelings, they are also human, are they are not carved in god’s image? Many people who have failed and failed, who were not enough, were the product of circumstances. This fact of life, gives me an appreciation for all the people who have their current jobs and love them for who they are. Imagine a person who has spent all their life, working on their dreams, sacrificing everything in their life, only to realise that ultimately it is the matter of chance and circumstance. I love the character Nathan, his innocence after all that he has been through pierces my heart. Despite all that he has been through, he does not show one ounce of pride or ego, his child like innocence along with his tragic fate really moved me. It re-enforced me to have an open mind and show kindness to people, since they too have their own back stories and one should respect them, and a guy like him should not deserve the treatment that he received. Evening during the end, the unconditional love that they show for the hero, is admirable even though after everything the team mates have to put up with, and that is the point; the sense of community and love whether you make it or not, is what in life matters at the end. Rest everything is all chance. Our hero in the end is struck with the same realization.

This movie re-enforced by belief that: many prayers go unanswered. Life is too fleeting and absurd to have your identity entangled with it, therefore it is better to live for the present and just choose the best choice that I can. Unlike my privileged situation where survival is not at stake this mindset is difficult to put this into action, because the worse off you are in life, you are more inclined to hope but not everyone will have their dreams realized. Solidarity and community are something is that can be valued since it only requires the present moment’s attention which is transient. But again, this depends on person to person, what they choose as their things to value.

Just saw the movie in full on Netflix (last day). I have the DVD but decided to watch it on there. Anyways when Anna was about to pass on her ghost/spirit form whispered something to Van, I had on the subtitles but Netflix failed me yet again and I couldn't hear it at all. Want to know what she whispered/mouthed/said to him.

Either intentionally or not, what movies spoiled the twist/surprise of an unrelated movie. Mine is 50 First Dates released 5 years after the Sixth Sense. Others probably include characters talking about star wars or the Vader surprise. It could also be an obscure reference like Soylent Green.

Huge guilty pleasure movie for me and my wife. Watching it tonight, we wondered whether Kathleen owned the building in which her shop was located. We don’t think the answer is in the text of the movie, but it definitely matters in the context of her prospects post-closure, as that building would set her up pretty well if she could sell it. Any ideas?

So I completely passed on the wild robot for theatres. Which I now regret. The first half to 3/4 of the movie was amazing. It had great heart and mood that made me tearing up a little bit at every scene. It very much reminded me of the old Pixar. But once the final act came around, it felt very rushed. It really felt like the movie could have used an extra 20mins. Maybe some more time introducing the villain character.

Either way, the movie is finally for rent on Amazon if anyone is interested. I feel bad that it didn't make more money in the box office though.

My New Year's resolution for 2024 was to watch more movies. Over the past six years or so, I made time for maybe three movies a year. I love movies, so I wanted to change that. All I can say is thank goodness for smartphones and forty-five minute breaks at work, otherwise this amount would not have been possible. The below list is separated by month. Summer was a bit slow because I focused more on reading!

Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

I love the idea of watching a movie and having a major event happen right at midnight.

This year I'm hoping to watch The Matrix and time midnight to the bullet drop at the end of the movie. What time exactly should I start it?

Also, what's your favorite movie to do this with?

Is IMAX relevant in 2025?

I think I've only seen one or two movies in an actual IMAX theater, closer to the year 2000, and it was just boring field trip type stuff (I think my class went to see Everest, the release date lines up with the year I had that teacher).

So I don't really remember a lot of the experience I doubt most 10 year olds can tell the difference.

Is there a way to make a comparison to regular tech? Like in 2000, did we drive 4 hours to watch a 90 minute movie in 4k? What is modern IMAX capable of compared to a regular theater and a movie shot with regular cameras?

Why...would you want that goofy aspect ratio?

Are there other noticeable differences aside from resolution and aspect ratio? Can IMAX do HDR, and if so, how well?

Doing a little wikipedia skimming it seems like they aren't making a lot of technical progress in terms of making better IMAX cameras and cheaper film to do actual blockbuster productions, they're not developing any cool tech for home use, they closed their whopping 7 "vr centers."

Is IMAX relevant in 2025? Is IMAX in the purgatory of private equity?

I see a lot of people talking movies that are really good, have an intriguing story or really good actions like Transformers One or Upgrade and then blame people for not going to see it in theatres for them to make money. People think other people just aren't interested in these movies but they DON'T SEE the real issue in here!

These type of movies are released in really big countries like China or US and many others but they are not getting released in many other countries because they are not "blockbusters" and production companies just doesn't believe in these movies or (for the Upgrade example) they don't have enough money to market in small countries. I live in Turkey, blockbusters make from 20$mil to 50$mil from my country yet small scaled movies don't come to here or countries that are alike. You can check it on IMDB, it is either non existent or for a small time. So these type of movies make less money yet people miss this issue.

Just wanted to express myself.

Doing a new years get together and we're thinking about watching Marie Antoinette. I thought it would be a cool idea to time starting the movie so the sunrise scene starts just as the clock strikes midnight. Does anyone know or have a digital copy they could check real quick, what the timestamp is on that scene? (I tried looking it up and youtube/google) wasn't any help.

With Christopher Nolan having the Odyssey movie coming out in the near future. Do you think we could see a slew of Greek Mythology movies coming out if it's a massive success?

It seems like this has become the predominant model for movies in recent years (ie trilogys and expansive universes) and I don't think it would be a stretch to see Greek Mythology following a similar path to success as the Marvel and DC movies.

Except without the massive attached licensing fees, and probably not necessitating the same amount of expensive CGI etc

I'm not necessarily even saying they'd all be interconnected and overlapping like the Marvel/DC movies, just if you think this would be the start of a new era of blockbusters

I was thinking, if we had a “What if” series, but for movies—exploring how iconic films might have turned out if they were directed or produced by someone else? Imagine George Lucas directing or producing The Lord of the Rings instead of Peter Jackson. What would Middle-earth look like through his lens? Would we get a more of a sci-fi vibe, or something completely different?

Or flip it: Peter Jackson taking on Star Wars. Would we see a grittier, more grounded galaxy with massive practical sets and maybe New Zealand landscapes doubling as alien planets? Another example, what if Christopher Nolan directed The Godfather? Or Guillermo del Toro had a crack at Harry Potter? Maybe Denis Villeneuve reimagining The Matrix?

It could even be an anthology series—directors swapping their iconic projects with each other, and we see what their unique styles bring to the table.

What do you all think? Which director-movie swap would you be most curious about?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

do you remember that movie, I just watched 1 and 2. I loved it, corny but so much fun. I love how the jinn has this devilish smile the entire time, it's so diabolical, the actors face probably hurt from smiling so hard while filming.

did you guys like it? any thoughts? what about 3 and 4, pretty low imdb ratings, but 1 and 2 didn't get great ratings either...

I’m trying to compile a book of good life lesson movie quotes for my kids. Along the line of

“With great power comes great responsibility” - Uncle Ben

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time given to us”

  • Gandalf

“Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering”

  • Yoda

Anyone got anything less common to help me add to my list?

I thought that Robin Williams leaving us would lead to the big revolution in the film’s reputation—but still no one even seems to remember it at all. Maybe now with spy drones and attack drones on everyone’s mind it’s finally time?

Everyone has New Year’s traditions - mine is watching the original version of “The Poseidon Adventure” on New Year’s Eve. Been doing this since the pandemic in 2020 when you couldn’t really go out; now it’s just become a tradition whether alone or with friends. One my favorite disaster movies of all time with great cast and so many memorable moments- the ship turning upside down, stunt man Ernie Orsatti falling into the skylight in the dining room, climbing the Christmas tree, climbing up the shaft, the arguments between Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters saving Hackman from drowning, Hackman yelling at God while hanging on the steam valve. I saw it when it originally came out in 1972 and must have seen it at least once a year since then.

Synopsis: Greedy executive Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman) hopes to take control of the company he works for by purchasing a majority share -- but he must first devalue the stock. So he convinces the board to appoint know-nothing recent graduate Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins). But Mussburger's plot backfires when Barnes' latest invention succeeds, thereby increasing the company's value. Worse yet, undercover reporter Amy Archer (Jennifer Jason Leigh) has the scoop on Mussburger's shady dealings.

Honestly, the synopsis doesn't do it justice. Especially with Tim Robbins' huge role in Silo, coming back to watch his earnest performance as Norville Barnes is a breath of fresh air. You'll find deliciously satirical writing and direction from the Coen Brothers, knock out performances by Newman and Leigh - the Hudsucker Proxy is an overlooked gem. With the focus around New Year's Eve, there is no better time to watch this amazing movie if you've never seen it before. Infinitely quotable, excellently acted, and supremely unique, I hope more people take the time to watch one of my favorite movies tonight.

This and mysterious skin are literally horror movies. But requiem for a dream, i thought was done really well and it was all so abrupt. The refrigerator actually scared me for some reason. I like at the end when sara, marion, and tyrone curl up into a fetal position. It quite symbolic to me. The fact that it is all very real and these things actually happen to ppl is very sad. Great portrayal of how drug addictions can ruin one’s life. Honestly a great movie, but a disturbing and tragic one. 4 stars for me.

This movie came out when I was 6 years old. For me, then, it was the best movie I’ve ever seen. Now, almost 25 years later, on New Year’s eve, local TV station is replaying it and I can’t be happier. It’s still as good as it was in childe’s eyes of my own. To everyone who hasn’t seen it, please do, I recomend it from the bottom of my heart. And for all of you youngsters, please watch movies like this, that hasn’t been recycled and has a beautiful story to it. Just beautiful. ❤️

Happy New Year to everyone, especialy those who are alone tonight.
