Every year my SO gives me a few gift certificates for Christmas. A restaurant that we haven’t tried, a new coffee shop, a tea shop. I appreciate the sentiment but I feel a gift certificate should be accompanied by follow-through on whatever the gift certificate was for. If you give me a gift certificate to a restaurant, set up the date as well. Follow through and make the effort on an outing. Every year we get to late November and it’s like “we’re running out of time, we have to use these” and we’re lucky if we remember where the certificates are. I’m an adult. I can pay my own way. It’s honestly not the gift card value that’s important to me. It’s the night out.
