Lineage os has enough market share that many foss apps would add support for it. It then could be ported to other Roms so that we could have a Foss notification method

I would like for app search to start right as I enter the app drawer and I want the app to start as enough chars are typed to match the app without additional clicks. I'm aware of 0launcher, kiss, and others launchers doing this (I believe I tried all launchers vailable on f-droid) but I want to stay with trebuchet style drawer. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I'm using Redmi Note 9, the build I'm using is 20-20230811-microG-merlinx. Everything works as expected, and I love it so far. However, when I'm trying to do remote play on my PC, I realize that my DS4 is not working. It worked perfectly in MIUI 12.5

Step that I've taken: Using 1controller module DS4 kl module Insert .kl file to my keyboard folder

Nothing works. Any help would be appreciated :)

Hello. My main question is covered in the title of this post.

I have experience with installing LineageOS, and currently have it on a Fairphone 2. However, this question is pertaining to a friend who has a Google Pixel 3 that is not working properly. It frequently shuts shuts off and reboots after being turned on. She often needs to hold the power button to be able to read texts without it going blank and rebooting. I suggested she may need to free up some space, so she deleted some video files from it, and there is sufficient space now, but this made no difference.

So, as outlined in the title, I'm wondering if a LineageOS can be installed while preserving her user files -- similar to installing a different Linux distribution on a computer that has a separate /home partition (IE, preserving the home partition). Is this possible on an Android phone such as the Pixel 3?

I currently use an OnePlus 9 Pro and want to switch to LineageOS.

I dont use banking apps and don't use Netflix or whatever.

The only thing holding me back is android auto. I searched various forums and posts and got a bunch of mixed results.

Can someone give me the current status on android auto with lineageos? Does it work, if yes, is it easy to install and use?

I just flashed LineageOS 20 on my LG V20 (H918) phone. All seems to work except I cannot encrypt the device. When I go into the device settings and tap on "Encrypt Phone", nothing happens. I even have my phone plugged in and charging with the battery at 100%.

so I found a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Wifi, one of the few tablets that have official LOS support. the specs aren't too bad either, 10" 2000x1200 screen, 4/64GB, 7000 mAh battery (remains to be seen in what condition); for $120 with some shitty cover/stand and dubious charger, one hell of a deal. only problem is, it can't be reset or it'll lock itself.

thought on passing, but the dude assures me it's not stolen as he has a bunch of these, so most likely scenario is some corporate client dumped these and upgraded to newest and best without unenrolling them from this knox bullshit. either that or there's a crew ripping exclusively gta4xlwifis all over Germany.

although I can endure Samsung's OneUI for basic shit, I happen to know a little bit about Android, bootloaders and stuff and I'm fairly confident I can wipe this crap and install LOS without issues. what is the saying, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing? so let's start.

first off, LOS instructions say you gotta have the latest firmware on the device. this one's on Android 11, so launch software update. update, reboot, hold breath - will it lock itself, annnd... booted just fine, we're done!

except, no we're not. inspecting software properties shows it's on A12 and the update process is already downloading another package. current LOS ROM is 20/A13, so we need A13 and latest patches, looks like it's gonna take a while.

well we're finally done. all in all, FIVE different upgrades, one after another, and then each does some "optimising" shit, took hours. dios mio, you couldn't just ship a cumulative update, it had to be piecemeal?

anyhoo, tried each of the versions for a couple of minutes - sluggish, stuttering, occasional single-digit fps animations, boatloads of G and S services running in the background, each one is sending you Super Important Notifications All The Time, can't wait to be rid of this crap.

alright, A13 and latest patches in the house. now comes the step I'm dreading - according to LOS instructions, I have to boot in download (proprietary fastboot) mode where I should unlock bootloader and thus erase user data. this equates to doing a factory reset which, according to the seller, should lock the device. although I've tried to educate myself on what this knox business actually is, I've come up short (chip busts a fuse when tripped, what?!?) so in lieu of succinct info I guess I'm learning by first-hand experience.

so, power off, disconnect USB cable. press both volume keys and connect the USB cable. one disgusting turquoise screen appears, instructing you to press vol up once for download mode or to longpress vol up for device unlock; not what LOS instructions say.

so press volume up for a couple of seconds and the screen asks for confirmation you really wanna unlock it, calls you a bad person and an even worse user but it acknowledges your intention. reboot and... it stays for eons on the samsung loading screen. I'm fucked, right?

eventually, the system boots up, says it's knox locked and wants access to the wifi. it connects and the onboarding process begins. I've tapped "Skip" everywhere I was allowed and eventually the desktop appears! we're off to settings, re-enable developer mode, USB debugging and check the unlock bootloader switch is on. then we have to turn off this bixby whatever-the-fuck-this-is popping up when we wanna shut the tablet down.

alright, tablet is off, disconnect cable. press both vol keys and connect the USB cable. ugly screen appears. this time, press vol up once and we're in download mode. heimdall detect and... not detected. wtf. ~~different USB port?~~ that works, flash successful! edit: turns out, you have to disconnect the USB cable after ugly screen appears and then reconnect it after launching download mode.

now to rebooting. as this tortured soul found out, LOS instructions are kinda off, so what's needed is keep the tablet connected to your PC the whole time, press vol down and power until the screen turns black, let go for a split second and immediately press and hold power and vol up and don't let go until you see the LOS recovery. you mess up any of these steps, a) you won't get into recovery and b) your recovery will get overwritten by the stock recovery and you have to start over with heimdall.

so, finally in the recovery, we select factory reset and then adb sideload. first comes the LOS zip. when it's done, select adb sideload again and send magisk (you have to rename .apk to .zip before you do). done, reboot. here we go...

and it works! no knox nothing, no google, no samsung crap, I have a beautiful, fast, thin device, bereft of any bloatware. without dicking around with animation scales, the UI is infinitely faster and more responsive.

now getting f-droid and installing essentials.

have to research these questions:

  1. the annoying nag screens while booting (you're a bad person for unlocking it, press power if you agree, etc.) can't be removed?
  2. does LOS support the pen? I haven't got it, but might consider getting one if it works.

thanks for reading!

some junkers are selling several tablets here and they all have the knox bypass installed. you can install whatever you want from the play store but no system resets or it'll lock itself.

there are tutorials on how to bypass knox and it all seems pretty straightforward. I don't really want Samsung's bloatware and have zero use for any google services, so I'd like to flash LOS.

so, if I flash TWRP, wipe it and then LOS, will that work? don't wanna buy it if I can't.

thanks!

MIUI is bloated and limiting, so I decided to switch to lineageos, however, it doesn't support my phone. Do I just wait, or is there anything I can do?

I also found this. Have no clue what it is, but maybe this can help. https://github.com/Jabiyeff/android_device_xiaomi_spes

I just upgraded my LG V20 (H918) phones to LineageOS 19.1 and I tried to format my SD card in my Android storage settings and it failed every time I tried. I can still boot into the Android OS, but when I go to boot into the TWRP recovery, it will always freeze on the TWRP boot startup screen. Therefore I cannot reflash LineageOS onto the device, or even update the ROM.

I cannot reflash TWRP or even flash LineageOS recovery in fastboot mode since I always get an error.

Does anyone know a way to solve this? To my understanding, trying to format the SD card caused this issue as the recovery was working before.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e (gts4lvwifi) using LineageOS 20.0 and certain apps (mostly apps for QR scanning) does not work. The official camera app works, but apps like QR scanners, cryptocurrency wallets, etc. Any app that uses a camera for scanning a QR code will just show a black screen an crash or display an error after 10 seconds or so when trying to use the camera in the app.

I have ensures these apps camera permissions are enabled and that camera access is enabled.

I just upgraded my LG V20 (H918) phones to LineageOS 19.1 and all is working great except when I restart my phone when using a VPN with the "Always-On VPN" setting and "Block connections without VPN" setting is enabled, my phone cannot access the internet. Therefore my VPN cannot connect to its VPN services and connect to a VPN server. The only way to connect to my VPN from this point on is to disable "Always-On VPN" setting and "Block connections without VPN" setting and reboot my phone and then it will be able to connect to the VPN server.

I did not have this issue before. And I do not want to disable "Always-On VPN" setting and "Block connections without VPN" setting since this acts as a built in Android VPN kill switch.

I am considering a Fairphone 4 (or seeing the recent news, maybe 5?) for Lineage. Anyone using this combination already, quirks to be aware of, battery life, camera quality, etc?

Hi, my tablet is kinda slow. I thought about getting rid of the original bloatware. I see that there are inofficial versions like https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-unofficial-13-lineageos-20-for-samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10-5-sm-t805-sm-t800-chagalllte-chagallwifi-alpha.4577223/page-10

I was wondering if a newer android version makes things even slower than now. Should I stick with the last official version or go for an unofficial one, when it comes to speed?

I messed up and didnt make a call on stock before flashing LOS and now i cant activate VoLTE. When i place or receive a call it drops to 2G while the call is in progress and goes back to 5g when done. I know tmobile isnt going to keep their 2g up forever, but as of now all i can see to do is flash stock, make a call to activate IMS, flash LOS again, and restore all my data again.

I just noticed that i am able to enable l or disable wifi, 5G, Airplane mode, etc from the quick settings on the lock screen. This seems like a security risk though i guess a thief could still just pull the SIM. is this because of the builds being "userdebug"?

I'm using lineage for some years now, with a longer break between 19 and 20. Stayed with 19 for a long time. Everything on a Moto G7 Plus. No problems until I smashed the phone. Got two new used ones and installed 20. Both showing strange camera ... lag? Even more strange, this applies to all FOSS camera apps I've tried. Feels like the OS runs into super high CPU load and thus significant lag when using the camera app. That applied to both new phones. Can someone push me into the right direction? Thanks a lot.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/685110

LineageOS 20 also introduces a new camera app called Aperture, which is based on Google’s CameraX library and provides a closer-to-stock camera experience on many devices. Aperture was developed by SebaUbuntu, LuK1337, and luca020400, and has been integrated into LineageOS and adapted to a wide range of supported devices. https://lineageos.org/Changelog-27/

Hello !

I just had to change phone, and the move was from LOS 16 (android 9) to LOS 19 (android 12), and I just found about the permission "allow only while being used"... It seems natural to give that permission rather than just "allow"...

I'm wondering what exactly "while being used" mean. If it's while interacting with the app with an app front end only, then that might not work when apps run on the background, with no front end interaction whatsoever. So for apps running in the background most probably I'll need to give "allow" sort of permissions. If it really means while the app is running, no matter if on the background or interactively with a front end, then in the end "while being used" would serve as well as "allow", since the app is always in use, right?

What's the real difference between the 2, and in particular what does that mean for apps running in the background?

Hello !

I've seen forums in ta past recommending opencamera over the stock/default camera which comes with LOS.

I'm wondering if that sticks for Motorola one 5g Ace (kiev).

Honestly I'm more of the point and shoot sort of camera user, but I'd still go for the app resulting in better quality pictures. My hand has always been sort of shaky as well, so the one with better SW to handle that is also a winner, :)

Anyone aware of a promising unofficial lineageOS, or better yet lineageOS for microG, for the moto G31? I checked, and it's not supported officially, so I was wondering if at least there was an unoficial image to use.

Ballpark estimate.

I want to be able to use my normie apps like a random calculator that requires 100% ram usage while it definitely doesn't mine Bitcoin, wifi to display annoying ads and other obnoxious permissions.

I'm being more srs than I'd like.

Think I would still be able to use like 99% of my google play apps?
