“Also for sale elsewhere”, for my fellow non-Finns. Never understood why I’m supposed to care about it as a buyer. Is it a queue thing?

Hi everyone, hopefully I can get some help on this.

I'm a journalist, currently writing a story about a musician I recently interviewed. He was prosecuted and convicted in Finland, and I would like to get a copy of the court decision (both first instance as well as the court of appeals decision).

Many countries have case law available, either through paid services like LexisNexis, or for free (google indexes US decisions, the UK has Bailii; NL has De Rechtspraak, etc.). Is there something like that in Finland?

Thanks!

Hi, I will be working in Helsinki as a researcher for just 4 months and I can request progressive taxation according to the criteria.

What I wanted to ask is am I paying at source (35%) and after some time I get the difference returned or does the progressive taxation applies from the start of my employment (given that I have done the required paperwork)? The difference would be approximately 500 euros per month, so the first case would make my life a little bit difficult as an undergraduate researcher.

Also, after getting the tax card and your tax status settled, do you just give the tax card to your employer and then they automatically deduct the tax and credit you the after-tax salary?

I would really appreciate any help on that.

I’m an American but my family immigrated from Finland in the 1800s. The family name was Ahonen but mine is different after a couple generations.

I want to get a tattoo says “Tough and Competent” in Finnish. Can someone help me with a translation?

I’m not about to trust google translate for a tattoo. I know I should pay a translator and that’s next if posting here doesn’t work.

The main reason is to honor my great-grandfather, the last man in my family named Ahonen. He was a WW2 veteran and flew a bomber over North Africa. The inspiration for those specific words is the Kranz Dictum because he also loved spaceflight.

Thank you to anyone that can help.

Hi! I am looking to buy 2023 minted silver coins related to Finland in any way. I see older ones getting sold in tori.fi and I wonder from where do they originally come from. Does the bank of Finland sell those? Tavex.fi does not.

I have been wet shaving for years and I was wondering if you have any suggestions for Finnish shaving soaps? My favorite soap as of yet is Adriana and Evans peach and cognac.

I am thinking about doing masters in CS from Finland. Why is everyone mostly going to countries like US, Canada, UK, and germany? I find some top universities in Finland even providing 100% scholarships. When does application start as I can see admission open from some non IT courses now. Is it difficult to land jobs in IT afterwards?

I am wondering if it is worth it to deliver food for Wolt. I live in Jyväskylä. What are the pros and cons and what is the pay like? Is it better than working for foodora?

Kiitos

Hi, I’m looking for some advice on a issue one of my friends have. He bought a car recently from one of the popular dealerships in Helsinki. But, after few weeks the car had a issue with one of the engine sensors. So he informed this to the dealer and they replaced the sensor at a cost of 100 euros. My friend has asked the mechanic if he could expect more issues in the future, and he has advised to get the car replaced. My question is, is the dealership liable to replace the car or allow the buyer to buy another car without any loss for him in this situation?

Sorry if this has been asked many times, I am travelling to Rovaniemi next weekend, I’ve been searching for public transport from the airport to city centre, but I’ve been met with confusing answers. From what I’ve seen the Santa Claus bus isn’t operating until November, my Airbnb host also said there isn’t any public transport but could arrange transportation for me for €30???

I would like to buy a set of really big mugs. Like 550-600 ml big. I haven’t seen any in the basic shops like Prisma or Tokmanni or Clas Ohlson and ordering online is not worth it with the delivery prices.

Can you recommend shops I can go to and is not Marimekko…?

Thanks🍺

Moi, I'm Tonight in Helsinki and searching for something to do which is cheap an fun, if you have any tips please let me now. As for myself I'm a 28 year old history and German student from Germany and have already visited the island on the coast and the white church and was planning to look at the Kalevala paintings this afternoon. I would be grateful for any tips. I would have tried r/Helsinki but they are private right now
