HI all.

I'm in the middle of a project, testing a bunch of GSI for several phones.

But I'm facing issues with storing them. Even at tar.gz, they still take up a chunk of my 512 GB SSD. I'd buy more storage but right now, I really can't.

Speed isn't an issue, really. I just need to compress these to a small enough size without breaking them.

I think I figured out what happened.

A while ago, I bought a 5TB EHD to act as a media server for my 'totally legal' movies and shows.

Whilst adding a show, the prompt prompted up asking where to put the magnet, I accidentally where it says 'Shows' added a space before clicking 'OK' to add the magnet link to Transmission.

Now, I have two folders where the files are going. I add a file into the actual 'Shows' folder, it automatically adds it to the '‎Shows‎ ' folder, as well.

I close Transmission and QBT and delete the spaced folder, and most of the files/folders are gone in the actual folder as well and I see some 'New folder' folders.

So, I can't just delete it.

I try to merge to folders, but...

I have to admit: I've asked a bunch of questions on Reddit, but this is just a foreign concept to me.

Please someone help me. I don't know what to do.

Liteon LST-16S9G, Liteon LSS-16L6G-HP, SanDisk 45N8464

They're all 16 gig. I'm going to use one as the boot drive in a ThinkCentre M700 Tiny, with a 2TB Western Digital 7C9DV data drive. It shall be my new Open Media Vault box. Or perhaps some other server OS that does DLNA.

Not so sure that performance of the SSD matters too much for this application but it would be nice to have any reboots go fast as possible.

I have filled up all of my 8 bays and mobo SATA ports, yet I need to add some more storage. To maximize my capacity, the plan is to buy a couple 5.25 to 3.5 inch bay adapters and a SATA card because I do not use RAID and this is not for a NAS, but merely to add more un-backed up storage. However, I have come across quite a few posts in the past couple of days talking about this or that issue with SATA expansion cards and all of this is new to me, so I need a little help figuring out how to pick the right SATA expansion card to avoid issues. Below are my specs:

Only 2 extra ports are needed because that is all that my case supports and I plan to keep everything internal. Also, I suspect a 2-port SATA expansion card would be less expensive than a card with more ports? I have looked on Amazon, but most seem to be PCI-E version 2.0 and my mobo supports version 4.0, so... Are PCI-E version 4.0 SATA expansion cards even a thing? Using a 2.0 will limit the bandwidth, so I am assuming this would limit the read and write speeds of drives connected to the card? Further, to avoid issues, other Redditors have suggested avoiding port-multiplying cards (i.e. the card's chipset should not have more ports than the number of lanes that the chipset supports), yet they might have been referring to HBA SAS cards? With my setup, I am able to support a x4 card, so I suspect a PCI-E version 4.0 SATA III expansion card with 2 ports that has a chipset to support 2 ports and uses 4 lanes would be ideal, but does such a thing exist? Am I just looking in the wrong place?

Picking a SATA expansion card is the last piece of the puzzle that I need to figure out, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

So I'm wondering if it's possible to download all of the TikToks from a specific search term or hashtag? I really love fan edits of specific shows and stuff and I'd love to be able to download them without having to like them first. I don't really care if there's a watermark, that's fine.

I tried to figure out if I could do it using WFDownloader but I haven't had any luck; it's possible I'm just not tech savvy enough or something, but anyways, I wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Sometimes if I try downloading a webp video off gelbooru the file will corrupt and won't let me watch it on desktop.

I think its a bug with the embedding, are there any applications that will let me download gelbooru videos without any issue? I tried iTubeGo but that didn't work.

I bought a Kingston 2TB external SSD. Both my Win11 PC and my Raspberry Pi 5 (Raspbian) detected it as a HDD. Is this always the case for all external SSD?

It is my understanding that TRIM is unavailable for HDD. So, if my external SSD is detected as HDD, then TRIM will not be available. I think at the very least write performance will deteriorate. Also, will the longevity of the SSD be shortened?

Interested to hear about your CD ripping workflows?

I'm in the process of converting and old duplicator into a small ripping station and would like it to be headless so was looking to use whipper.

If I end up using a screen, I may as well stick with dbPoweramp.

I use Roon for my library which handles loads of metadata about CD providing its tagged correctly in the first place.

If I can get a little 2x16 LCD showing progress of two drives too, awesome, doubt anyone has bothered already though.

My setup is pretty simple: 2 x 18TB drives each in a separate USB enclosure. The 2nd drive is meant to be a mirror of the 1st drive for backup purposes.

Right now my backup process is this: I add files to the first drive as I go then at some point I'll hook up the 2nd drive and copy paste all of the new data to try and keep both drives in sync. As I keep adding more, it is getting difficult to remember what should be copied over to the 2nd drive. Is there any software that can make this backup process easier?

I'm on Windows if that matters.

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you for reading my post and perhaps guiding me to the proper way of solving my first personal data hoarding attempt.

After using Google Drive and some other cloud providers, I have decided to go a different route. Most cloud providers are limiting in bandwidth speed, total data transfer limiting or hard to 'mirror' and 'sync' properly for my use case.

Here's my idea:

Setup a 24/7 personal mini-server using my pc hardware to constantly look for changes and sync bidirectional to a single SSD as a mirror backup.

Be able to access the filesystem and the backup ssd (2 Nvme drives) remotely via SSH or equivelant, so I can access my files and download them or upload to the ssd's remotely using a laptop or another device.

Utilize the machine as a personal data storage for things like archived mail, attachements and pictures/media.

I am willing to start out slow and simple, using these specs and capacity. Note: I don't have a lot of big files, just a lot of small files.

Please let me know if I'm doing something stupid or if I am overcomplicating stuff.

Disk 1 - C:/ is an nvme. 990 samsung pro ssd that has 2TB of storage and is using a windows 11 os with +- 1.8TB of space. This will be the main SSD and the active operating system.

Disk 2 - is the backup SSD using a 980 samsung 1TB ssd that currently mirrors a google drive filesystem, but will shortly be formated and empty to be used as the potential mirror drive. This will mirror the filesystem of Disk 1 excluding the system files. I don't mind losing or corrupting the OS. I just want to have my data hoarding documents, media and mail etc. synced and backed up.

Disk 3 and 4 are 1TB Samsung SATA SSD's. Potentially for expansion and/or extra storage/extra backup for most important files. To be sure if both nvme drives somehow die, we still have these for emergency recovery and backup.

I am considering using either Linux or Windows to setup the mirroring daemon or equivelant.

  1. What is the best software or method to do this? I am reading into rClone, rSync and some other software. I am willing to put in the effort to aquire the knowledge needed to set it up properly.
  2. Is this practical and/or often utilized or am I doing something stupid/unneccesary?
  3. What cloud storage as alternative to my mini-server is 'worth' it if we are talking about 5-10TB of data storage with frequenct small changes in files? Google Drive seems okayish but I still had some issues using 'mirroring'.

Thanks in advance,

Eduard

I’ve been working on an open-source tool called rec-all, for anyone who likes to keep track of what happens on their screen. It’s a lightweight app that runs entirely offline, saving screenshots and extracting text using OCR and image captioning and let's you search through moments; everything stays local.

If you like the concept of having a personal "time machine" for your screen, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Original Title: Saw an auction where you couldn’t really tell what was included and the description read as “networking and server equipment”. Not shown: a randomly included plasma tv, boxes of cables, some cable management and a few faceplates. I’m in too deep.

Sometimes I want to save a reddit post with it's replies as a JSON, TXT or any other storage efficient format, are there any tools to do it? Most of the tools I found scrape subreddits or users, not individual text posts.

With the looming tariffs and beginning trade war for minerals/parts, will things only begin to get more expensive? Was looking at picking up a small setup just like a 2 bay NAS with 20-36TB for Plex, some self hosted stuff, and a ton of Photos.

This is a funny one. Finally got all the Cheers episodes in 1080p and stuck them up on Jellyfin. Got to the last series and Jellyfin has a fit with the last few episodes. They all looked wrong and I looked it up. Its because they had 2 parters but they appear to be their own episodes.

So I've renamed within Jellyfin, giving it the correct tag yet its not updating the images but I can resolve that.

The main long winded question is this. I was a kid here in the UK when Cheers started. I hated high school and would ask to watch Cheers purely because I wanted to delay going to bed to delay school the next day. I never really understood it, never got into it but liked it as a buffer from school. All this means I never followed it each episode and never saw the ending.

Its taken now, as an adult to sit and watch it to finally get it, its just a group of people in a bar and their daily life, you can pick and choose episodes which is what made it great.

Anyway, get to the point. The One For The Road final shows on IMDB that its a 1:10min episode and on WIKI it says the episode was aired May 20, 1993 but when you play back those episodes, they all have their own intro and credits. So where these all aired on one day but split up into 3 shows instead of cutting together to make one long episode?
