I agree that clients like Sync should support the broadest subset of link styles since Lemmy/kbin, etc haven't settled on a link standard. I think it might be worth creating an issue on the sync GitHub?

Looks like there's an issue already: https://github.com/laurencedawson/sync-for-lemmy/issues/198
Argh, I looked here to see if someone else had raised the issue, but it didn't occur to me to check GitHub. I'm not sure I agree with what the 'Expected behaviour' should be - a link beginning with a '/' has always been relative to the server you're on, and '!' seems unusual to me, but whatever works.
Tbh I'm not familiar with all the different link types but I would definitely comment on the GitHub tracker as I think that's where the dev is going to look
For what it's worth, !community@instance
has been a standard of sorts for Fediverse groups since 2018, when Friendica implemented them. Lemmy communities are simply Fediverse groups which is why they use this syntax, and I suspect it will probably be the one adopted by Mastodon as well when they do groups (although who knows? Whatever Mastodon decides is what will be standard across the entire Fediverse).
I don't really know what we're talking about as a lay person, but I kind of do.
I've gotta say I'm happy as a pig in shit right now with things just the way they are. (happy to have Sync period.)

The above is a valid link format for linking to this community. It works on desktop and other Lemmy apps, it doesn't work on Sync.
Ahh I see. Thanks for that.
