Come to Quark’s, Quark’s is Fun!

General off-topic chat for the crew of startrek.website. Trek-adjacent discussions, other sci-fi television, navigating the Fediverse, server meta (within reason), selling expired cases of Yamok sauce, it’s all fair game.

"Sources caution that this doesn’t mean there’s will immediately be a deal but it marks the first significant step toward progress since the writers strike began May 2."

I've been keeping up with the strike posts here. I haven't commented because I'm so annoyed at the studios greed that I haven't gotten beyond "incoherent rant" as a response. I'm expecting the studios to jack up the prices of streaming, laying it on the (eventual) new contracts when the strike end, while ignoring all the price increases that have occurred in the past.

3 months to get the AMPTP to the point that they might be willing to start bargaining in good faith.

One hopes it’s enough. With the lack of counteroffers from AMPTP on non-monetary terms for at least a month before the strike, it’s clear the large content companies with deep pockets were hoping to starve out the average writer. They seem to not understand that they aren’t providing viable income levels for writers and working actors to start.

One also has to wonder if the recent agreements from independent producers that have been will to actually negotiate, have played a role in putting pressure on AMPTP.
