Ordered a PineTime (and a Pinecil) direct on 6/26/2024, it shipped from China on 6/28 and I received it today 7/5. I'm on the west coast of the US and I'm really impressed with the shipping time.

Charged it a bit, then updated to the current InfiniTime 1.14.

Bootloader is still at 1.0.0, there hasn't been any updates for that, right?

It also says to update the recovery firmware, but I don't see which version I'm currently on and couldn't find an updated version.

Otherwise, it seems nice so far. I'm on Android and setting up with GadgetBridge wasn't difficult (since I knew to pair directly from GB and not using the phones BTW pairing).

Already connected it to gadgetbridge and updated to 1.14.

Now I was wondering what the best way is to compile InfiniTime myself so that I can play around a bit myself.

I already found infinitweaks as well as well as InfiniTime-Builder but maybe I should try the official documentation first?

Quick overview about the changes, more details found on Github (post link).

  • Reduced memory footprint in flash memory: the analog watch face draws the background at runtime instead of using a pre-defined background picture and we moved the font for the navigation app to the external memory.
  • Improved raise-to-wake algorithm and new lower-to-sleep functionality
  • New weather service and new setting to select °C/°F
  • The build system now allows to easily select which user applications and watch faces are built into the firmware
  • Replace the node.js tool that convert the images (lv_img_conv) by a custom re-implementation in Python
  • InfiniLink, the iOS companion app has a new maintainer! I will probably wait with the update for a week or two, as 1.13 came riddled with bugs.

Edit: Ah, have to wait for the new Gadgetbridge update anyways.

Unfortunately there is a bug with v0.77.0 of Gadgetbridge on Android 14, that means that it can't update InfiniTime. We have submitted a fix, which will be available in the next release of Gadgetbridge. In the meantime, you can use another device to do the upgrade or use a nightly build of GadgetBridge (it's recommended to use the no pebble flavour, as that can be installed alongside your existing GadgetBridge app).

What's your favorite non-standard app? I'm still using the standard apps, but looking for other options. Can you recommend something?

Buying tip (feddit.de)
submitted 1 year ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

This post is for you if you consider to buy a PineTime.

The incredible low price of ~25 $ in the US makes buying new a viable choice. If you'd buy the watch based in the EU, VAT and shipping will be added onto the price, and the costs explode. The EU shop offers the watch for ~60 €, including VAT and shipping costs, and a way shorter shipping time.

60 € is a lot of money, compared to the 25 $ as the original price.

My solution: Look on the second-hand market. There are new or barely used watches available, ranging from 20 to 30 €. The PineTime is something you don't necessarily need to buy new, as it is still in development and you should try it out first. Maybe you need to look a bit longer on the second-hand market, but as the PineTime is still kind-of in development, this isn't a bad thing. Every update makes it better!
